This is a Silicon Carbide Grinding Wheel. It is for NON-ferrous metals. Most tool room grinders use Ceramic Aluminum Oxide, or Aluminum Oxide. This wheel is a silicon carbide abrasive. It is a versatile material, recommended for grinding relatively soft metals such as aluminum. It works great for precision size grinding that I do on aluminum parts.The reviews that claim this wears too fast are probably from people using it improperly. This Silicon Carbide Wheel should NOT be used to sharpen cutting edges of any high-speed steel blades, such as knives, machine bits, drill bits, lawn mower blades, etc.
