An enjoyable read
Brittainy Cherry is a one click author for me, so when I saw I had the chance to read The Mixtape early, via Amazon First Reads, I didn’t hesitate to grab it.There is so much that I love about this story, but it did take me some time before I became completely hooked. Once I was lost in the story, for much of the remainder I didn’t want to put my kindle down. I absolutely adore Emery. She’s kind, caring and compassionate – a beautiful person inside and out. She is someone who I would treasure having within my close circle of friends. She shows incredible strength and determination, and I couldn’t help but want the very best of everything for her.My heart hurt for Oliver at times and there were moments when I thought the author portrayed his grief perfectly. He is such a lovely person. His journey throughout the story is both heartbreaking and heart-warming, and after everything that he goes through he truly deserves to find peace and happiness.Reese stole the show at times I must admit. How could she not? I found tough situations easier to read because of her. She is so loving and caring and she made me smile lots - especially when she said things that we as adults would refrain from saying out loud. The relationship that Oliver’s parents have is a real-life romance goal. You’ll understand once you meet them all!One of the things I loved about this book is the link between the title and the storyline content. I can find that some titles have more of a connection with the story than others, and for me, this was one of those times.Overall, I really enjoyed reading The Mixtape. I was delighted that it brought out many emotions in me, loving the laugh out loud moments just as much as those times when I needed a tissue. This is a story about friendship, love, loss, strength, healing and finding happiness. There are some twists and turns in the story that I didn’t see coming – which I loved. I would, however, have liked to have witnessed how one particular scene in the story unfolded as Cam had played an important part in Oliver’s life.I award The Mixtape 3.5-4 stars.

Took me a while to get into this
I got this from Amazon's First Reads program for 99p at the start of the month. This starts with Oliver and his twin brother Alex at a music party/event when they both decide to head out together. Unfortunately, they get hit by a speeding driver and Alex dies from his injuries. Fast forward six months and we see from Emery's POV. She's struggling to make enough money to keep her and her daughter in food and even to keep the roof over their head. One night she goes to work at the bar and none other than music sensation and now recluse Oliver Smith is sat in the back. When he starts to be recognised by the people in the bar, Emery ushers them out and ends up taking a very drunk Oliver home, only to be fired the next day for not closing the patrons tabs. When Oliver finds out, he offers her a job and a friendship begins to bloom between them.I did like this. It took a while for me to get into it but once I did, well, I pretty much devoured it. The story is emotional dealing with death, emotional abuse and the after effects of rape but it also shines with love and forgiveness. The connection that Oliver and Emery shared was great. They both helped the other in so many ways that their romance was almost inevitable. How could they not fall for each other after all the nice things they'd said and done for each other?I loved the interactions between Oliver and Reese. They poked fun at each other and loved it. They were a really cute twosome and I loved how they continuously bounced back and forth while growing close almost instantly. As for Emery and Sammie's parents? They were the worst set of overbearing parents I've ever read about. They truly were vile to their children in their over-religious/self-righteous way and I could gladly have banged their heads together a few times throughout those "past" chapters.

Slow
I found this a bit predictable and Slow and not really page turning. It is ok for sleepy bedtime reading.

My favourite book ever!
After Oliver Smiths twin and second half of there musical duo, Alex, died in a car crash, he ends up in a downward spiral with no end in sight. Somehow he ends up at a hole in the wall bar where Single parent Emery works. When paparazzi makes a surprise visit to said bar, and Oliver is way past drunk, the only thing Emery can do to help her childhood, celebrity crush, is to take him back to her flat to sleep off the booze. To thank her for helping him, Oliver hires Emery as his personal chef but with them being around each other they start growing closer. It starts with late night phone calls then him inviting her and her daughter over for a barbecue with his parents. But learning each other’s true story’s both brings them closer and tears them apart.▪️▪️▪️▪️Such an emotional rollercoaster; I would go from crying my eyes out to laughing so hard the whole way through. I knew this would be a 5 star read after reading the first few chapters. It was such an addictive book that I ended up finishing it in a day. Reese is the sweetest, funniest kid and the way Oliver acts with her made my ovaries explode!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
