Surprisingly well built
Our machine gets nearly daily use and no problems. It's great at what it does. I did have to buys some different grit plates for it, but that's to be expected. It even does great on agate.

You will need other equipment to get started
I just bought this machine to supplement my rock collecting (Rockhounding) hobby. I collect rocks and tumble them for fun. I thought this would be a good way to upgrade my collection. I bought this machine because of the price. I’m not a professional gem cutter. In fact I’ve never cut a gem in my life so I’ve had to do some research. I’ve ordered dopping wax (this machine comes with exactly zero dopping wax). Dopping wax is pretty important. It’s what holds the gem to the dop sticks. I also ordered a transfer jig which is also important. It helps keep the gem straight when you transfer the dop sticks from the crown (top of the gem) to the pavilion (bottom of the gem). Another thing I ordered was a 45° dop stick adapter just for convenience. You may be able to cut a straight table but a 45° adapter will insure that you do.Just know, if you order this machine and plan on cutting your first gem the day it arrives….. ain’t gunna happen. I gave this a 4 star review because it seems like dopping wax should be included. At least a small amount, so a beginner can play with this thing on the first day. That being said, if you price gem faceting machines, you know this one is very cheap. The machine that I received is heavy duty and seems to be made well. I have no complaints as far as durability so far. The faceting manipulator (the arm that holds the gem and sets angles) was much better quality than I expected. I can’t comment on its accuracy but it seems like good quality. It’s pretty heavy and we all know if something is heavy it must be good. This machine is bare bones so you’ll want to make some upgrades. But for under 300 bucks, what do you expect? If you’re new to gem faceting like me I think this is a good machine to get you started. It’s relatively cheap so you aren’t dropping 4-8 grand on a hobby you may not enjoy. I recommend this machine for the price and durability. As I progress through this new hobby I’ll update my review if something important reveals itself. It seems to me this machine will last a while and maybe in time I’ll upgrade.P.S. I also ordered a beginners book for gem faceting. The machine gives no instructions on how to cut a gem, and I wouldn’t expect it to. A circular saw doesn’t come with plans to make a table. I’m only mentioning it as an idea. It’s a good book to help you along. It’s called Amateur Gemstone Faceting Volume 1 by Tom Herbst. It came highly recommended by the spy’s at Apple so I thought I’d throw that out there. I guess I’ve gone on long enough. Happy gem cutting everyone. I hope you find a beautiful gem out there.

Update: “waste of money” we will see.
I wrote another email to Vevor support detailing the failure of this product and their customer service. I basically said this is unacceptable as I have been a long time customer blah blah…….they sent back an email offering to replace the product. I am not typically the type to “throw a fit” though on this occasion, under these very specific circumstances, it felt more like launching a defense, rather than a tantrum. I am a bit disappointed it resorted to low tactics to receive help, we will see how it plays out.I purchased this in August of 2023. I used it maybe 4 times, I followed all the user guide directions for operation. The second or third time I used it I noticed water dripping from the bottom of the motor. I was a bit concerned but I wasn’t sure where the water was coming from, I checked the collection tray to see if it was leaking or cracked and from what I could see there were no visible issues. Though the next two times I used the machine water dripped from the bottom. Well life happened and my wife and I had to move for work, so I put the machine in a storage container for about a year until I decided I wanted to be a bit more serious about jewelry making. So I pulled out the Vevor and plugged it in and it was dead, I tried some trouble shooting suggestions and checked for loose or disconnected wires. It looked good from the outside. Though I noticed during me examination, that a rust colored powder had fallen from the bottom of the motor housing. I disassembled the machine to find the motor housing had in fact been leaking and the motor had completely rusted and seized. I reached out to Vevor because this seemed like an obvious manufacturing error, water should not be able to get into the motor assembly of a tool that relies on water for cooling and operation. They told me that basically because i purchased it a year ago their warranty expired and they are not willing to stand behind their product. I’m sorry, warranty or not, this is a gross failure in production and quality control, and I am the one suffering the consequences of this companies negligence. Unacceptable, I wouldn’t recommend Vevor to anyone for anything, cheap products by a brand that doesn’t care about you. Save up, spend a bit more for a machine that has some decent customer service and maybe a bit better reputation. Shameful business practices Vevor.

good for beginner
unfortunately, it was missing a very important item to make it work. the nut that holds the plate to the motor, plus washer were missing. not an easy fix because it's a left-hand thread and most likely metric. service department not answering, awaiting Email reply. as a mechanic I may have to rethread the spindle myself to fix. I recommend this machine only to mechanically inclined people. well-built an sturdy with one speed motor and no water reservoir. all screws an bolts need tightened before use, unfortunately i can't use this one till i get it fixed!
