Wonderful knife for slicing bread
I use this knife to slice homemade bread. The length of the blade makes it perfect especially when used in conjunction with a slotted cutting guide.

Super sharp knife, perfect cuts
I used this knife for my inlaws anniversary party where I was cutting several 10” round tall cakes. Worked perfectly, cake slices looked like a pro cut them and it worked awesome. Plus the wide flat edge is perfect for scooping up each slice and laying on the plate. I read all the reviews on here warning of how sharp it is and I was super careful but sure enough the first thing I did was slice my hand. Blood everywhere.A separate cake cutting tip: do not slice cake in front of guests. Just don’t unless you’re a professional. If you have a moist cake, there’s some cake stuck on the knife no matter what. Running to the sink after each cut when you’re serving hundreds is crazy time consuming, so the wet rag method is great, however you do not want your guests watching you wipe your knife on this rag that’s full of chocolate cake. It looked much worse than it was. Plus my daughter told me I ATE a few bites of cake left on the knife as I was slicing, didn’t even realize I did. We now understand why weddings order sheet cakes for serving and do not cut the display cake. Although by the end I now feel like a pro, so maybe round two will be better. Good luck!

Very long, skinny, and sharp; cuts cakes / brownies easily.
Very long, extremely sharp, but I'm careful around it so I haven't cut myself. I'm glad others cautioned against cutting yourself when taking off the sticker / tag in the front. That really is a terrible place for it, for such a sharp knife, but since others had warned, I knew about it and was able to remove it without a problem. I was hoping that the blade was "shorter" height wise; I was looking for a skinny knife with a blade height that was shorter than other knives. This one looked like it would be, judging from the picture. But that's not the case. The picture tricked me a little bit, it's just so much longer than it looks in the picture so that's why I couldn't tell. But it is skinny enough that it isn't a problem when I cut cakes and brownies. It cuts very, very nicely, I'm so glad I purchased it! Longer than any knife I've ever had, so it makes it easier to cut these desserts.

Excellent and sharp (be careful!!!)
I'm a first year Baking & Pastry student at a culinary college and I was the unfortunate victim of of a considerable amount of theft, all in all I had about half of my $800 knife kit stolen over the course of a couple months, leaving me scrambling for equipment. I love both the quality and price of this knife. It's length makes it perfect for doing all manner of cakes and it works great for other things too! In fact to day I used it to divide up a large watermelon because the chef's knife I was trying to use just wasn't cutting it :P (that was an unintended pun!) But be warned if you don't treat this knife with the proper amount of respect and caution you can get hurt. I learned this while cleaning it and ended up getting 5 stitches in my left index finger. All in all, an excellent knife that has served me well thus far and hopefully for many years to come!

Good knife. Watch the length.
Among others this is a lighter weight, thinner blade, longer and easier to handle knife. I feel it is superior than many other knifes. I do also own a Zenker cake knife and that one I also like. So maybe it's not all about the weight..it's about the overall feel of the knife. Besides, sometimes you need a 14" long knife vs the typical 12" or shorter. You never know. Some days you just want to bake a big cake. Now given that it is 14" long blade PLUS the handle which is another 4 inches or so.... make sure you have a long, long drawer to store this. It won't store inside a typical drawer that's for sure! I happen to have a knife drawer that can accommodate 18" of stuff so this one barely made it in.

A cake decorator must have!
I have had this knife for about a year and it has been a great investment and an essential tool for my cake decorating. This knife is super sharp and makes cutting cakes into multiple layers simple, quick and easy. I had the original Wilton Cake Leveler before this knife and it was not useful, difficult to use and fell apart. For best results with this knife, minimal pressure needs to be applied to cut through the cakes. It works best with a back and forth sawing motion and creates minimal crumbs. Blade has stayed nice but definitely recommend only hand washing and dry immediately to keep blade in best condition. Comes with a vinyl plastic cover to protect blade and accidental handling, however, I would have preferred a more sturdy cover for added safety benefits.

Sword-Like Problem Solver
The blade really is 14" long. That 14 inches does not include the handle. I bake breads at home with my home bread machine and slice them on my "Bread Pal" slicing rack. The 14" length of the knife's blade insures that the blade NEVER pops out of the slot when I'm slicing. That happened a lot with other knives advertised to be 13" or 14" which included the length of both blade and handle. The blade itself ended up being only around 9" long. Trying to slice bread with those kinds of knives was a mini-nightmare.The Ateco 14" cake knife is VERY thin which is also perfect for slicing bread. It is also extremely sharp which makes for a clean cut using a very light pressure. Just what you want when slicing something delicate like a freshly baked bread. Oh, yeah... you can cut cake too.
