It's meant to use like a bar of soap for your hands to remove the odors of onion, garlic, and fish. Those foods give off a chemical that bonds to stainless steel when you rub it in your hands, thus removing the smell from your hands. It works very well!

Q: Will it rust like some brushed stainless?

I have had mine for a few months and has not rusted.
