Tough
Here is my take on the Pelican case. When we arrived in Mazar e Sharif via C17, we had to unload the aircraft. While doing so, my Pelican case, containing my laptop, fell from the loading ramp of the aircraft. If you know the value of a computer while downrange, you know how scared I was that it was over. I thought for sure I would need another computer to keep me entertained while I had downtime. With no way to replace it at the time, I was truly scared the machine would not work once we got to our ultimate destination out in the wood at a COP (Combat Out-post).Well the story goes, no damage to any of the contents and everything was safe and sound. A fall from 8 feet or so, and it was safe!

Horrible Customer Support
1st order arrived as an empty box. Amazon processed refund, and I reordered. 2nd order comes and product has defects: the defects are 1.) the molded case does not have screw locations as described in the product sheet supplied, making it impossible to fix the inner liner of the case as described in the product sheet. 2.) The upper accessory area of the case is only held in place by velcro strips, which on mine had adhesive that failed meaning the velcro held and the case-side adhesive did not work and the entire pouch falls on its own. When I followed amazon's suggestion to ask the supplier for assistance, the supplier told me they do not accept warrenty replacements on any of the issues described. They only cover "issues with the case not the accessories" meaning anything besides the plastic cracking they will not help with.

Wrong Picture on Amazon
So I was debating this 1490 CC1 case vs. the 1495 CC1 case. I purchased the 1495 as the 1490 said it can't accommodate laptop sizes as large as a 15" MacBook Pro. So, I ordered the 1495. While it's a tank, it's a bit large, so after seeing the current image of the 1490 case on Amazon, with the laptop sleeve, I thought my MacBook would fit just fine....and I ordered the 1490. While not disappointed in what I received, the picture of the 1490 on Amazon's site is actually of the 1495. The 1490 has a different layout inside and out. While my 15.4" MacBook fits great in the case, there is no sleeve. It is a pre-molded bottom for the case, with two dividers underneath the laptop to fit whatever you can. There are pick-n-pluck foam inserts for these compartments, so you can separate your gear from hitting your laptop. The laptop sits on top of these dividers and has a velcro strap that keeps it secured to the bottom, so if you're going to set something on top, get a thin, neoprene sleeve. Other than that, the quality of the 1490 case interior is a bit better in my opinion. The lid organizer appears to be a cheap leather, but nicer than the 1495. The backing of the 1495 is a flexible plastic, like the kind found in the sides of luggage, and it is screwed to the back. There are also only two latches, not four. The two latches in front do lock with a key though. There is no combination lock as pictured on the 1495. Attached is the product link direct from Pelican for the 1490 CC1. [...]I'll attach some correct pictures as well.

Don't get it.
1. one latch does not completely grip tightly.2. 1490 and 2490cc1 are sold in the same box. It may appear you will receive the 1490 not the 1490cc1. On opposite larger sides is a picture one one or the other model. on the surrounding sides are the labels and stamps to indicate model. If you did receive the wrong one, it must be in error by the person shipping it.the leatherette holder on the lid is different per year released. I looked at some in a store and between two stores the case was different. It is held on weakly by a gooey glue. It may eventually fail under exposure to heat or weighted items placed inside. The newer insert is better since it includes pen holders and a cellphone holder.side compartment seems narrower than what is pictured. I think the 1495cc1 would be a better choice for room if you can carry a larger case around and need a larger side compartmentThe left latch doesn't grip very tightly. I have a large pelican case and all latches grip tightly. At all models I looked in between two stores and for both the 1490 and 1495 the latch is ever so slightly loose on the left side of the carry handle. It appears that it seals all the way around but I cannot trust it's waterproofness if one latch will not appear to grip tightly (in fact it wiggles a mm or two). It looks as though it would keep sealed if you had to run from your car to your office/house but not be left out in a heavy rain or under submersion.I returned mine. I like Pelican cases. But now after I looked at several other models in stores I cannot recommend their briefcases. Only their storage/transport cases.

Great case, a few flaws
This case is very sturdy, fits my 2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retina perfectly. Both latches come with built-in locks as well as unshrouded hasps for small padlocks. My only complaints are that:1) The velcro that holds the organizer to the plastic does not stick. Not the hook-and-loop side, but the adhesive side. It arrived unstuck, and I can't get it to stick. So basically, the organizer is just flopping around.2) I contacted Pelican via their website regarding this issue, and have heard nothing back. So much for customer service.3) The smell is very strong. Probably the same adhesive.
