MG217 Medicated Conditioning Coal Tar Formula Shampoo 8 oz (Pack of 4)

Pros:- It works! After only one shower!- If I use it every 3 days I have no issues whatsoever; no more beard flakes, no more itchy/painful scalp.- My beard is extremely soft after treating it with this.Cons:- Holy mother of god the smell. It smells like straight up gasoline.- I will probably develop some sort of cancer using this. It is COAL TAR. There is even a CA cancer warning on the label. (A related pro: my corpse will be beard flake free and look great.)- It does burn. To me, in a good way, like a strong peppermint shampoo, but yeah it'll burn the whole time it's on.So that's it. I've used all manner of dandruff shampoos and oils, but they never really worked that well. To add to it, the smell was weird and medicinal, and it seemed to hang around for several hours after using them. Yes, this stuff also smells awful -- like I've literally been drinking gasoline -- but it doesn't linger too long, and the product itself works really well. I contemplated knocking a star because of the smell, but ultimately decided against it. That should at least speak to the efficacy of this shampoo.Bottom line, I'll be buying it again.

It would have gotten 5 stars if I got the picture, this one smells horrible but does seem to work well. Only problem is it's hard to breath even after dry and the smell doesn't seem to dissipate.

My husband uses this (I’m not crazy about the smell, but it does go away after his hair dries) he swears by it for his dry itchy scalp. This is the best deal I’ve found as it tends to be really pricy in stores.

I'm giving this a 3-star review out of respect for the years that it worked for me. Up until recently, it was the best coal tar shampoo I could find on the market. It worked well, felt comfortable to use, and smelled tolerable (like a good, strong coal tar shampoo). On my last order, however (set of 4), I noticed that the smell was a much stronger paint thinner-like smell as opposed to the earlier (and comparably pleasant) coal tar smell. Also, about 2 minutes after I apply it to my scalp (before I'm done lathering), it creates an uncomfortable burning sensation that makes me rinse it off. Fortunately, the burning goes away with the rinsing. Previously, I could lather it and leave it on for 10+ minutes with no trouble whatsoever. So, unless both my nose and skin changed, it appears that the formula has changed or the ingredients in my order are off. I'll work through the four bottles, but sadly, I don't think I'll be ordering this shampoo again. (Note: I shook the contents well and tried 2 of the bottles on multiple showers over a few weeks.)

Ive tried so many products from the prescription to whatever ones I can find on the internet, both cheap and really expensive but this is the only one that works on my scalp. Id be lost without it!
