I got this for my eight year old, who is a curious boy. He loved it and began trying to catch rainbows with it. Cool.

Excellent prism!

Prisms are your gateway to all kinds of optical adventures. Everybody knows you can split sunlight into a rainbow. However, with an optical prism like this, and a bit of patience, inside that rainbow you should be able to see the spectral lines that will tell you what elements are in our sun. If you can somehow make a brace so you can keep the prism over your eyes, like glasses, it will bend light into your eyes, for cool optical illusions. With the long prism, I was able to trick myself into thinking the ceiling was on the floor. The optical quality of the INNOVANT prisms is top notch. The principles of spectrographic analysis can be explained with these prisms, basic optic principles like refraction and splitting of light. With two prism you could catch the rainbow split of the first prism, and bend it back to white light. So these are basic instruments for "Science is Fun" experiments.I was provided promotional items for examination, testing and review purposes

I received a complimentary sample of this in exchange for a fair review. This is a nice quality equilateral prism, perfect for demonstrations of refraction, total internal reflection, and dispersion. Such demonstrations require a bit of skill to set up, but this prism will function perfectly. You could use a laser(such as a laser pen) to easily demonstrate refraction and internal reflection, but since it is monochromatic, that won't demonstrate dispersion unless you use two or more lasers of different colors(green and red laser pens are available). If you look through the prism, it is easy to notice dispersion(light breaking up into a spectrum of colors). This is made out of acrylic so it will not break as easily as glass and is safer around young students. All three sizes in this brand are shown in the attached photo.

This is a unique item that lends itself to a variety of applications such as photography or something simple such as a paperweight. Let your imagination take hold here! I see this being an unusual gift for someone with a creative mind or a youngster with an inquisitive mind. This is distortion free.
