Q: Has the ruler been fixed yet?(the reviewer that has a 1/32" gap @ 27", this would throw things off)

Wow! I definitely didn't know about that. I compared it to my other rulers and indeed it is off around the 27 inch Mark. However I grabbed my digital calipers to measure the difference and it's more like 1/64 of an inch. It's very minimal but it is off.

Q: Would this be useful for determining if jointer tables were co-planar? Or is it just a ruler?

Just a ruler. I don't see how this will help to determine if both jointer tables are correctly aligned since the cutting teeth are higher then the feed table and the "catch table" should be the same height as the Apex of the cutting teeth in the jointer. It is a really nice straight edge though.

Q: Is this straight enough to determine that a cylinder head from an engine is flat enough? Using feeler gauges?

It's extruded aluminum, very very flat and perfect for woodworking. In your application, I would opt for something better (Starrett milled to .0001 inch).

Q: since the scale is etched, would an x-acto blade catch on it?

The etching will not interfere with an x-acto blade or any other knife. The etching is on the front, this ruler has some depth to it so the blade will not come in contact with the etched part of the ruler.
