An Adequate Fountain Pen, There Are Better Ones.
This is Parker's latest attempt at a homage to their spectacularly successful Parker 51 of the 1940's to 1970's. Unfortunately there are better homage pens for much, much less. The original pen was, and many still are, the perfect writing tool from the point of view of balance, weight and shape. The slip on cap never wore the pen and the fill quantity meant you could use it all week. It came in a huge range of nib sizes too.The current 2021 Parker 51 Plum pen is a nice, dark, plum colour that looks black most of the time with a hint of purple in certain lights. Very nice, as is the exterior of the cap. The cap thread goes straight into a thread on the barrel plastic. This is asking for trouble and will be the limiting factor on the pen's life. It is BAD design. Really BAD design. The nib is hooded, and the hood only looks like an original Parker 51 from on top. From the side, the nib and feed look like a cheap and nasty Parker Vector. The nib is not as soft as an original P51 nib. The flow from the delux convertor is poor, and the ink needs to be pushed into the feed to write smoothly. Unless this occurs, the nib feels dry and scratchy. When adequately inked it's smooth. The nib comes in an utterly pathetic range of sizes, Medium or Fine. How does it stack up against other Homage Pens? At the moment, the best alternative Parker 51 Homage pen is the Wing Sung 601, which comes in a wide range of colours and has alternative nib sizes available (which you fit yourself). These are much better engineered pens than the modern Parker 51 under review, and are considerably better writing pens.In conclusion, do not bother with the 2021 Parker 51 effort unless you are desperate for a Plum pen, want to have every Parker pen or you really like throwing money down the drain. If you want to write for long periods of time each day with all the benefits of an original Parker 51, buy another pen.

Skipping!
My father many years ago only ever used a fountain pen and his choice was usually a Parker and he always had an original Parker 51 on his desk - I was never allowed to touch it!I read the reviews on the new Parker 51 fountain pen and while they were at best lukewarm I thought I would at least form my own opinion. I duly purchased a 51 via Amazon (Midnight Blue version with Chrome trim and steel Medium nib).As others have noted the box arrives with no documentation, only a Parker ink cartridge - shouldn't there be even a brief introduction to the pen with perhaps history of the 51 brand? Anyway, the pen is undoubtedly a good-looking item, although not in the "luxe" category.I duly inserted the proprietary Parker ink cartridge and after a fair amount of persuasion the pen eventually decided to write, although I felt the nib was somewhat "scratchy" which I put down to the newness of the item. And although marked a "Medium" I felt it wrote more like a "Fine".But, over the next couple of days I just could not get this pen to write smoothly, and sometimes not at all. When it did agree to write the nib "skipped" considerably, then it would work, then skip, then nothing at all.I wouldn't expect this from the cheapest brands, let alone a legacy brand like Parker - so the pen is being returned, albeit reluctantly. Perhaps the premium version with the gold nib may offer a better experience but frankly this was just a disappointment.

Very nice pen
This pen looks really gorgeous, (gloss black and silver), and is very nice to write with. Of the fountain that pens that I own it's the most expensive I have, and the only one with a solid gold nib. Yet, after a month or so of daily use, has not become my favourite to write with. It's very good, but a few hard starts give me pause. I have a Parker 95 owned since 1886 that has never failed to write first time. Overall for the build quality i'd say it is worth the money but my advice would be go for the steel nib. Honestly I'm not seeing any advantage to the solid gold nib. Slightly more spring with negligible line variation, so what's the point? If I were buying again I'd get the cheaper steel nib.

Stunning pen
Beautiful pen, no skipping, writes very smoothly. An elegant design and aesthetically engraved line. Good weight, very feminine pen. Brushed silver contrasts well against the engraved line. I have been looking at other high end pens for over a year before this purchase. Sits well against the fingers, no uncomfortable step along the barrel. I have used parker's for 40+years and am not disappointed. Excellent value for money compared to other pens.
