Authentic cooking that reminds me of Karachi
I love this book as I love the authorβs recipes which are explained perfectly - I have been following her blog for a while. The recipes replicate tastes from Karachi in Pakistan and literally transport you back there. The tastes of the home cooked simple recipes are beautiful - they prove a few ingredients can give maximum taste. I look forward to trying all the recipes here (the bun kebab, chicken patties, koftay are already go to recipes), I highly recommend this book.

Best cookbook yet...πππ
As an individual who appreciates fine tastes in life and cooking, I found the book to be a compendium of Indian cooking. Above all the book has materialsed Indian cooking from the author's kitchen to my food table. Keep it up and I expect more from Ms Shehar Bano...

A culinary treat - A great book for anyone looking to master Pakistani/Indian Cuisine
I was waiting for the book ever since Shehrbano announced that she was working on it and it did not disappoint. Book is extremely detailed. I love how it covera everything from dry spice mix to snacks to lentils, vegetables, meat dishes to dessert. It's a visual and culinary treat. Recipes are well written. Also, I love everything that has a personal touch to it. And this book sure does. Reading it does give you a feel of being connected to Shehrbano's family and her heritage.I highly recommend it to someone new to cooking as well as to people who love to learn from others and improve their way of cooking. And I'm sure even if you're good at cooking, you'll find recipe you haven't tried yet or you were looking for a good recipe for. I sure am.

Authentic recipes but not a great cookbook
The recipes are really nice and authentic. I like using the book for ideas on what to cook. I didn't really care for the back story because it wasn't very interesting at all. However, I am not a fan of this as a cookbook. Firstly, there is NO index. It's unthinkable that someone would publish a recipe book without an index. Considering this book isn't that large, it would have been minimal effort to put one in. There is also no detailed table of contents. There are just vegetable, meat, rice sections, but if you want to find a way to use an ingredients you have to flip through the book to find a relevant recipe. This alone makes me reluctant to pick up this book because it's too much of a hassle. Maybe some of the pages spent on family photos could have been better used by including an index - that actually helps the people paying good money for this book.Secondly, it doesn't seem like the recipes were tested vigorously. The spice measures given don't produce a flavourful result, which any decent cook would have picked up on if they had tested the recipe by following it exactly as it was written. I constantly have to adjust the amount. I am familiar with what the end result should taste like, but anyone wanting to try out Pakistani cuisine with this book will be underwhelmed by the results. Finally, for the price, the quality of the book is extremely cheap. It is printed on the kind of paper you'd find in an office printer. It looks underwhelming, and feels very very cheap. If I had felt the paper quality in a store I would have never bought it. I don't know how anyone can justify charging 50+ AUD for such a thin and cheap quality book. I have heaps of cookbooks that were paperback so I paid much less for them and the quality is much better than this book. AND they come with recipe indices.Overall, I like the recipes in this book but the measurements are off and the print quality is fairly disappointing. I'd only recommend buying it if you can't find a better quality Pakistani cookbook.

Wonderful collection of easy and authentic recipes
I've been in search of a Pakistani cook book with authentic recipes with no difficult and hard to obtain ingredients and which carry the essence of my childhood food forever and I finally found it. It is a beautiful well rounded book which covers all aspects of cooking native to Karachi like me. I've been living in USA for many years and this book reminds me of home. The pictures are beautiful and the background heart touching. This is a cookbook I want to give to my daughter when she grows up. I've ordered its hard copy after buying its kindle edition just because I liked it so much.
