I've had this stand for six years already!
Yes, I bought the bag. Great investment. This stand is strong. I put huge books of music in plastic sleeves -- 200 pages it's held things with no problems.I keep it set up in my music room It's great as I switch from sitting to standing with different instruments. It's a little heavy but it has Never been too heavy to not be worth it. I need a workhorse - not a wimp of a stand. The base folds easily and is strong and stable. I play upright bass - and need it to be tall.I've no regrets - I've put it thru it's paces and it comes out on top! I just found the receipt and can't believe that it's been six years of service already.

Little pricy
Best quality portable stand I have ever used and the expensive price reflects that.

Perfect for packing up and tearing down regularly. Very reliable stand!
An amazing stand! Been gigging with it for years now. Perfect for me, I play standing up, fully extend the stand with heavy gig books - zero issues. I would personally recommend to anyone who needs to pack up and tear down regularly.

Excellent music stand, if a bit heavy and awkward for a portable.
Short: It's a solid and well-crafted stand, if you can put up with the dimensions and weight.Longer: After years of having a wire stand, I wanted to finally buy something more substantial. This Hercules stand fits the bill, but it isn't going to completely replace the use of my wire stand. In almost every way, it is superior to my old finicky wire model: it's a solid platform for music, made well, with a large "music area" for displaying sheets. It has a couple of wire retainers to help hold sheets in place, but I've yet to use them -- clothes pins are probably still in order for windy outdoors. It is heavy, though. And bulky. The desk and the stand separate, but as two pieces they don't nestle together nicely or even indifferently: they clank and click and can't really be carried in one hand, unless assembled. I throw them in my music bag, where they jut out of the open top like incomplete skyscrapers. Portability is not the focus of this stand. But setting that aside, I'm pleased that I purchased it. It does what I need it to, and it does it well.CON:-Big. Metal. Heavy.-The pin and socket connection between the legs and the desk requires a lot of force to connect. But it will probably be the point of failure due to friction after much use, so better difficult than easy?-Feels like the adjustment bolt for the deployed legs requires an inordinate amount of heavy turning to keep the legs from sagging under the stand's weight.-Lack of instructions made me feel like I didn't quite know what I was doing. I still don't know how parts of the telescoping neck are supposed to work. Luckily, the stand is tall enough without having to worry about that, I guess.PRO:-Big. Metal. Heavy.-Nice sturdy music desk that accommodates my full-width LED stand light easily.-Base is solid and does not tip easily, even with a large amount of music.-Almost completely black with subtle yellow accents (see item photos above).NOTE: The music retention clips on my purchased stand are not black (as appears in the photo) but shiny metal. Not a concern for me, but noted for reference.

Way better than a wire stand!
I love how sturdy this stand is! I take it everywhere that doesn't already have good music stands. I use an iPad for most of my scores, so a rickety wire stand is not an option. I can use this stand without fear.

THIS IS A GREAT MUSIC STAND - DON'T SETTLE FOR LESSER QUALITY OR FUNCTION!!!!!
First, I can't say enough about Hercules products. I own Hercules guitar stands and mic stands already. When I wanted a portable music stand, this is the one I went with. Do you pay a little more? Usually. Do you get more? DEFINITELY!!I bought this stand and the bag that was recommended. The stand sets up and breaks down quickly with plenty of room in the bag for a few other items. I keep some clips in there for windy days - sometimes you end up playing outside. The stand DOES have some nice built-in holders that you can move around and they will do the job normally. I only use other clips on really windy days. I can also fit a couple of drink holders in there that mount on the stand or on the mic stands. This stand does exactly what I needed - I expect it to last a long, long time as my other Hercules products are doing.

Heavy-duty gigging stand
Quick and easy to put up and take down. Strong and stable. Not the lightest or the most compact or the least expensive, but (to me) the trade offs were worth it. The carry bag helps a lot.

Perfect!
Excellent stand. So tired of the cheesy wire stand. Finally a solid portable stand. Get the Hercules bag. Now can transport the stand , stand light and sax stand together in the bag. For those complaining about being bulky or unwieldy did not get the optional bag, or need to work out with a 10 lb. Dumbbell awhile.
