Q: Are these garbanzo beans? That would be a miracle, as I can't have the hulls, and I can't effectively hull the beans.

Chickpeas come in several varieties. The one commonly found in the US, also known as garbanzo bean, is called Kabuli Chana (“chana from Kabul”) or safed chana (“white chana”) in India. This is a large yellowish-white legume used to make chhole/chana masala. Another chickpea, indigenous to India, is called kala chana (“black chana”), desi chana (“Indian chana”), or simply chana. The English name for this variety of chickpea is Bengal gram. Occasionally, you’ll find it referred to as just gram, without qualification. Bengal gram has the same shape as the garbanzo bean but is somewhat smaller and, as the name suggests, rust-brown to black in color. When this specific chickpea is hulled and split, the resulting yellow split lentil is called chana dal. So no it’s not the same as garbanzos

Q: How long do these need to cook?

in a crock pot not sure. I tried on the stove for 6 hours still very dry. I read on line that most people in india use a pressure cooker to make them. That will be my next attempt. They take a very long time to soften correctly.

Q: Are these sproutable?

no, they are what you call in the US split peas.
