"DARTH VADER"
Soulcalibur IV is an amazing fighting game with great fighting mechanics, a large amount of playable characters and places to battle.Very fun to play and addictive , the addiction of DARTH VADER character is a good bonusCONSThe stage design can't hold a candle to the previous games, and the fighting system is a bit slow moving

The best game in Soul Calibur series thus far...
This past April, Soul series caught my attention especially with the create-a-soul nuance. So I picked up Soul Calibur 4 and Soul Calibur 5 recently and I admit I was pretty nervous to start playing for the first time. But I started playing SC4 and I did okay for my first time though I admit the fight against the Apprentice in arcade mode gave me a decent amount of trouble and I only lost once in Story Mode by Ashlotte and that was on normal difficulty. Had to spam throws since the CPU rarely ducks/escapes them.Yeah...unlocked all characters and earned my first 11 honors tonight. I am not looking to do 30 honors to unlock all, just 25. The Leviathan and Voodoo equipment I am not interested in. In fact, there are comparatively few pieces of equipment I believe look good, and I will not go into details. This will also be first game I play online, as well as Soul Calibur 5...maybe.I would strongly recommend this game. Besides the create-a-soul I like how Star Wars characters are guest characters here, and I do read the Star Wars books every now and then. Yep, this is going to be an adventure to 25 honors I am looking forward to.

My favorite fighting game
Lets forget a second about how cool it is that you can fight with Darth Vader and Yoda on this game, because that is very cool. What makes this game great is the fluidity of play, the tremendous amount of action, as well as all the extra missions you can go on. Not to mention all the personalization you can give each character. This is still one of my favorite games to play and I can't wait to get the next one!

an excellent game very fun
some people dont like the style of costumes, and online was a nightmare (heh heh) but thats irrelevant now. to me this is a classic soul calibur, i enjoy 3 more because it has more single player content but the fighting styles of individual characters is more developed here. its not as good as 6 but is a universe better than 5 which was a real dissapointment

Not a bad purchase if you don't mind it being somewhat outdated
Soulcalibur IV is, arguably, overall superior to its direct sequel, Soulcalibur V--which seems to suffer a bit in the character roster and single-player-modes areas, even if it's a little smoother and has an arguably more sensible guest character. For those who are uninitiated, Soulcalibur as a series is a 3D fighting game (in the vein of Tekken, which is made by the same company). But instead of focusing on martial arts styles, the Soul series is weapons-based. Characters are equipped with a variety of weapons both big and small, long and short, creating a game very much based on balancing range with quickness. The game's four-button system utilizes horizontal attacks, vertical attacks, kick attacks, and a block button, and its "8-way run" movement system allows for somewhat smoother maneuvering than most 3D fighters. This game in particular has a healthy roster, with a few vaguely clonish styles here and there (The Sophitia/Cassandra and Raphael/Amy pairs come to mind), featuring Darth Vader and Yoda from Star Wars as guest characters (depending on which console version you get, although the other console's is available as DLC) and the rather frustrating-to-defeat Apprentice from "The Force Unleashed" available as an unlock if you beat Arcade with one of the Star Wars characters. Soulcalibur IV features the sort of in-depth customization and clothes/armor selection you'd expect from the franchise, although honestly this aspect is a little weaker than in SC5--rather than height options and individual sliders for body proportions, you have one X-Y axis selection for physique and muscle mass. There aren't as many clothing options from what I can tell and SC4 certainly doesn't have the large number of DLC customization packs that SC5 does. The combat is fun as ever, although for the life of me I've never seen the soul-break system actually do anything. SC4's unique twist is that it features a "soul gauge" that depletes as you block and refills as you land hits--the idea is that it deters turtling and rewards aggressiveness. There's a special critical finish attack you can apparently use if you manage to get the enemy into soul-break, but I've never gotten to a point where I could use it and I've never seen the CPU use it, either.I have no idea how dead-or-alive (pff) the online community is for this game. However, if you're just looking to enjoy the single-player aspects or this entry's particular guest characters, this is worth a budget purchase. It's a fun game, and on the whole more satisfying than SC5. The story mode itself is kind of weak--it feels like a secondary Arcade mode set to a lower difficulty with a slapdash tag mechanic grafted on. But considering it takes about fifteen minutes per character to complete and doesn't feature any of the cringeworthiness of 5's plot, I can't really hold that against this one.Players looking for a more dedicated/in-depth 3D fighter would probably be better off looking to the Tekken series or to Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate. Soulcalibur IV, however, is a fantastic time-waster.

May the Soul Be With You..... I Mean "Force". Same Thing.
The prime reason to play Soul Calibur IV is of course, the Star Wars characters. Darth Vader on PS3, Yoda on the Xbox 360 and the Apprentice on both. Veteran characters do return of course, sadly this was the final game in series to include some of the following characters from its long running cast, including Taki, Seung Mina, and Cassandra. Why? WHY?!! Why came SCV remove them from the series?! Adored the soundtrack. Graphics looked so real in HD quality and it 's beautiful. Gameplay's the same and previous titles.

Better than expected
I ordered this because it was 5 bucks (and the greatest Calibur ever made). The photo shows the Greatest Hits version but I got a near mint OG copy. The Instruction booklet, which had never seen a crease, was even present. I assumed for five bucks it would come in a Chumbawumba CD case but it came looking almost brand new. 5/5 stars.

Yes
Beautiful universe with a diverse cast of characters and graphics that hold up to this day. Gameplay is as good or better than any fighter of the genre.
