Original is the Best
I tried Kilz2 to prime new wood for a fence and it just did not work to prevent knots from showing through the paint even after two coats of Kilz2 and two coats of outdoor paint. I was unable to find Original Kilz at any of the stores in my area, so I ordered it. I am so thankful to find the Original. Painted one coat on the places that were showing through and no more problems!

Magical primer
The previous owners of my house had a small dog that made the entire upstairs, which was fully carpeted, into his toilet. Over the course of a year, we pulled out all the carpet and slowly replaced it with vinyl plank flooring. Some rooms were so badly peed in that the underside of the carpet looked like one big pee stain and the plywood subfloor would release a potent god pee smell. This is where the Kilz comes in. For those rooms, we simply rolled on two coats of Kilz original. The smell of Kilz dissipates within a few days, and the odors are 100% gone. Not even a hint of pee. We also had a room where I suspect someone used to smoke because on top of the pee smell coming from the subfloor, the walls themselves stank and no amount of scrubbing helped. Two coats on the walls and on the subfloor later, the room now smells perfectly neutral. This stuff is pure magic. One word of advice: if your goal is to block smells on a plywood subfloor, do not use the water based "Kilz Restauration". It boasts the same odor blocking as the oil based primer, but in my experience it really doesn't work great. In one of the rooms, I rolled on a coat of Kilz Restauration and all of the pee stains on the floor came right through. Not only did it make them very visible, it also moistened the subfloor (water-based, duh) and amplified the smell in a very bad way. I decided to not waste time with more coats (I doubt it would have worked in the end seeing as to how bad a job the first coat did) and repainted the whole thing with Kilz Original. After one coat, no visible stains and no smell that I could detect through the Kilz smell. I'm always cautious and applied a second coat, and bam, a week later, no Kilz smell and no dog pee smell. I went from thinking we'd have to shell out thousands of dollars to have the subfloor replaced on the entire 2nd floor to thanking the universe for Kilz Original. This stuff is the absolute best.
