Five Stars Entirely Deserved
Hard to describe my excitement when I saw the words "uncensored and uncut" on the DVD case, along with a warning that the cartoons were made for adults, not children. This might come as a shock to those generations who grew up in the past several years when the Warner Brothers stable of cartoon characters were indeed rebranded for kids. The cartoons have been eviscerated of any reference that might upset toddlers' minds, stripping the originals of their edge and irony. Here, though, they are in all their snappy glory. Here is the character who says, "Now I've seen everything!" as he blows his brains out. Here is the wolf in a zoot suit giving some cutie the once over as he howls, 'How oooold is she?" Here is Bugs Bunny at the base of a cliff watching the victim fall to his doom, saying, "Ya know, sometimes my conscience kinda bothers me," then throwing away the life-saving mattress, saying, "But not this time!"It's not possible to explain how and why this stuff is funny to somebody who doesn't get it. Maybe it's a case of You Just Had To Be There. But funny it is, and the jokes come so fast and are often so insane that no child could possibly follow them. But I don't suppose anybody is reading this review who isn't already interested in these cartoons and would like to know whether this set is worth the cost. In short: yes. Each volume contains four discs in a sturdy plastic case. Each disc is attached to its own sheet, not doubled up on top of each other. The video and audio are crisp and clear, the colors vivid and fresh. Each and every disc is packed with extra features: interviews with cartoonists, colorists, voice artists; audio commentaries; music-only clips, bonus cartoons; original still art, story boards and recordings of rehearsals of the music scores. This is priceless stuff, real treasure, an open window into a lost art and the people and the times of which it was a product.Maybe you have noticed that fewer DVDs are being released these days. The streaming services, Netflix, Prime, Apple et al., are occasionally producing some really excellent movies -- Mank, To Leslie, Roma -- and then burying them away among the heaps of crappy "content" where they are lost then forgotten. Maybe you have found that the belief that "everything is streaming" is a myth. Maybe you have wondered what will become of that movie you "bought", when the platform decides to get rid of it, or if you lose your subscription. Maybe, like me, you think that, things being what they are, it's a good idea to have a hard copy of that book, movie or album. In any case, a collection as thorough as this one is not likely to be duplicated any time soon. Grab it while you can.

A comprehensive survey of the best of the WB cartoons
First lets clarify what this set is NOT: This set is no way complete and it certainly isn't exhaustive. WB had produced over 1400 cartoons shorts during the golden era-despite the huge amount cartoons included here(360 in all)that is only a third of all the shorts made. To release all of the shorts on DVD yes all 1400+ in this format, it would take another 17+ volumes-assuming of course we have 60 cartoons per volume-this is only 6-all that has been released so far as the "complete" golden collection. WB could have continued with this series for the next 10-15 years-to release of them. So, what do we have here? Well the best way to describe this collection is a comprehensive survey of the best cartoons. IN fact, some of these cartoons are so political incorrect that they thought that it was necessary to include a disclaimer beginning with Vol. 3 with the Whoopi Goldberg intro-replaced after that with the onscreen text version of the same message. Which I think is a bunch of BS. The part of the stereotypes that are presented-these stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong today. And to present them edited would be the same as claiming these stereotypes never existed. Hogwash! The real reason why these cartoons are being presented uncut is that PEOPLE DEMAND IT!!!!! They want these sets to sell-so they are complying with the demands of the public!!The first three volumes are mostly Bugs Bunny, road runner, daffy Duck and other well known characters. The last 3 volumes show more of the Black & white-such as Bosko and Buddy cartoons-and other 1 shots. Daffy, Elmer Fudd, And porky pig transited into color-Bosko and Buddy did not-they were discontinued with the advent of color. It is really fun watching the early cartoons.Special features? There are too many to mention. WB certainly spared no expense in regards to special features. Some of it Archives and some of it is new, but it is all very good.I already had the first 3 volumes-but purchased this set instead-because after doing the math, It would have cost me more to get volumes 4, 5,6 individually than buying this set!So get this set-you won't regret it. Buy it for what is-but if you don't get it because it's not complete-then you are robbing yourself hours of pleasure.
