Looks like our customers did a great job of answering this question already, but the official answer is the carafe is made of BPA-free Tritan™ (trade name for a resin produced in the USA by Eastman). It is the same material used in baby bottles, medical devices, and many other food prep and infant care products that need to meet strict standards like California Prop 65, Japan Ministry of Health standards, European Food Safety Authority standards, etc. Additionally, there is small piece of steel embedded in the carafe that fuses the two Tritan™ pieces together (the carafe is a double-wall, air gap insulated design). Tritan was selected because it offers the tolerances and strength necessary for the American Press to work properly and safely under pressure while still providing a view to the unique brewing visual of water transforming into coffee as you press. Surprisingly, it's for those reasons and not cost that we selected Tritan™, which is actually much more expensive than glass and even more expensive than steel.

Q: Is it true that the "it's american press" is made in china? that'd be ironic...

Made in CHiNA. You'd think the USA could make a stainless steel French press. And no the "Freiling" isnt made in the USA either...shame.

Q: How does this press' extraction compare to the Aeropress? More aroma/character?

I find the Aeropress creates a richer coffee. Th American Press makes a brighter cleaner cup in my opinion. I love both methods. Depends on what you want. And both are very dynamic in how you can brew etc..
