This compares favorably to the Moleskein of the same size.It takes fountain pen ink very well, with no feathering. It might be designed with the pencil in mind, but it's perfect for ink as well. It provides a very smooth sheet, with excellent, crisp lines. Like the Moleskine, it has an elastic strap to keep it closed, a back pouch, and a sewn in bookmark. Rather than the history of the notebook on a card in the pouch, it has the history of the pencil and an amusing list of "Places You Might Find a Blackwing 602" on the back end page. If it seems the book is an afterthought, it is because of the well-earned legendary status of the pencil. It improves on the Moleskine in that it has, not only a pencil loop, but an included pencil, and not just any pencil, but the Blackwing 602. If you have not yet tried this pencil, and you are at all interested in luxury writing instruments, you need to try this pencil. It's amazing.If it seems the notebook is just an accessory for the pencil, that's because it pretty much is. The main goal is to give that legendary pencil a worthy surface to write on, and it succeeds that goal. My only complaint is that it does not come in a variety of colors, and I want a collection of these I can easily differentiate at a glance -- an unlined for a sketchbook, a lined for a writing book, a lined for a journal, etc. Maybe in the future they will offer that, but not at the time of this writing.

I cannot have a journal without something to write in it, but the elastic pencil spine works so well. Blackwing pencils are also some of the best I've ever used, bar none. Dot grid isn't so opaque so that it stands out, but you can obviously see it there. Honestly one of the best books I've ever written in, worth every penny.
