I wanted a new chess clock and was drawn to this one mainly because of the new way to setup/change time-controls. As a casual but avid blitz chess player, my biggest pet peeve with other digital clocks is setting time-controls: I have had a few over the years (and tried many others belonging to friends) and each one could be counted on as being entirely counter-intuitive. I would end up playing the same time-control even when I wanted to change it, just because I didn’t want to go through the torture of setting it and risking messing up the existing one when the multi-page manual is not at hand.One other thing (something that should be so obvious!) but I love that there is a Replay button at the end of the game: one click and you’re ready to play with your last settings (for some reason my old clock was about 5 clicks and a reboot to do something that obvious- so strange!)Well, this clock solves that nicely: Setting up a time-control is as simple as swiping a settings wheel (we’re all familiar with that I’m sure). Just takes at most 5 seconds, no matter what you’re setting up for. Their claim is true: There’s literally no need for a user manual. I only play chess, but I can see how setting up time-controls for Scrabble, Go, Backgammon, etc. would be just as easy.I had a chance to play quite a few blitz games with friends and I have to say I am impressed by both the simplicity and the looks of this thing. I have an iPhone 12, but I downloaded the app on my old iPhone 6 too and it fits just as well, with or without a protective phone cover.The clock base (I paid a bit extra for the deluxe) is sturdy and refined. The clock face looks awesome. There is even “tournament mode”, which disables all other phone functions while the clock is in use. The whole thing… just works on every level.Having used this clock for a couple of weeks now, I feel very comfortable saying that this was money well spent. Feels like the game clock for the 21st century and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the “traditional” digital clock. I’ll try to report back after a few months of use, but so far I’m very happy with my purchase. Very high quality.

something about how this item was marketed made me think it was a clock. It is not a clock. It is a docking station. The video doesn't show that you use your own cell phone, it never shows someone downloading the app and then attaching the cell phone to the docking station. They always just show the cell phone and the docking station together, making it look like a clock. For $85 which is the price after tax and shipping, I want a real clock.

I thought it was a really nicely made device, the app seemed to work really well, the leather and wood are very nice, but my phone was just too awkward to use properly. I have a pixel 8 pro, its a pretty big and heavy phone, and the camera bump was making it flop forward constantly when in use.if youre not using an xl phone, itll probably work immediately. My phone, I could get it to sit by lifting the leather lip instead of pushing into it, but for something 80 dollars I just want it to work, i dont want to jump through hoops. Could I lift the leather lip and get my phone to work correctly? Absolutely, but I could also just get a cheaper clock and not jump through any hoops. It was a hard decision to send it back.knocked off a star because their website says all pixel models supported. Sure, technically any phone with gyro should work, but there was no instructions/advice for what if your phone is on the larger side and doesnt sit correctly by default.

Crafted with solid walnut (no cheap laminates here) and a leather rocker pad that feels as supple as a Gucci bag, this clock is as much a statement piece as it is a tool. The software is top-notch, with customizable features and Fischer Random position generation, but it's the design that steals the show. Using it feels like sitting in a luxury car, and honestly, it might make your opponents feel a bit underdressed!Functionally you get the same great software for your phone as the classic edition (I have both editions actually). This one (deluxe edition) just spares no expense on the materials and finishes: it just looks *right* next to a proper wooden Staunton set in a way that no plastic lcd clocks ever do, imo.

Many time where the leather is still unsoftened it won't allow the tilt to register onto the app so it's kinda been a useless buy..

My husband is hard to buy gifts for so I was thrilled to find this. He is an avid chess player but the equipment he and his friends play with is so cheap (the pieces are worn out plastic and they carry around dirty roll up placemats). It was way overdue for an upgrade! It’s tricky to buy such a specific gift for someone who is as into it as he is, but the full bundle really nailed it. It’s the same size as his old set and is portable even though it’s all wood - it fits in a very nice messenger bag. The clock is clever and easy to use, it’s a dock for a phone that runs chess clock software. The pictures do not really convey the quality of how beautiful and well made this product is.We took it out to a bar to meet up with friends and the chess players there were literally drooling over it! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend for timed board games. App is easy to use and clean looking. 10/10
