Arroz con cosas: A funny story about cooking the perfect paella, in Easy Spanish for Beginning language learners (with bilingual English-Spanish Notes and Vocabulary) (Spanish Edition)

I am a middle school Spanish teacher in the US (non-native speaker) and this book was a really fun read for me. I learned about Valencian paella (who knew?) so it broadened my own cultural knowledge AND it was a great and entertaining story that I'm certain my students will enjoy. It's novice level, vocab is repetitive for comprehension without boring you to tears, and there's a handy glossary to help if / as needed. Lots of high frequency expressions, and you just want to know how it turns out so you can't put it down. Love the twists and turns, and the reality of social media and family relationships. I now want to try the recipe in the back to actually see if I can make something Spanish myself. Please keep these great books coming!

I purchased this book for a Spanish 3 adult community college class who are still beginners. It's difficult to find beginning books for students who don't know past tense yet. Everyone in class bought their own copy, and we used it as a group reading activity to end each class. It was easy for them to follow without requiring them to look up a lot of new vocabulary words. We took turns reading and everyone really enjoyed it! My students loved the paella recipe at the back of the book also. To celebrate the end of the class and the book, we went to a Spanish restaurant to try authentic paella.

This is a funny book, writing style is a little strange at first, but it's a beginners Spanish book. Great story that is easy to follow, I did get quite a few laughs from it. I've read it twice now and plan on going back for more reads as my Spanish gets better.

I have absolutely LOVED reading this book with my adult beginner Spanish students. It is so cleverly written and the language used is perfect for beginner learners. My students travel often to Spain, so it has been so fun for them to learn more about Valencia's tradition of paella while gaining confidence by reading a fun story in Spanish. My students now email me when they come across "arroz con cosas" at restaurants! :) As an instructor, I have used this book with absolute beginners. I think that any level 1 instructor could easily incorporate this into their curriculum.

The graphics in this novel are amazing. The way it is written with different size print adds to it's effectiveness. It is simple, so a second year learner could follow quite easily. It gives a deep cultural insight into Paella - but not just the stereotypical superficially view. Instead it gets to the heart of what it means to be a Spanish person who is proud of their culinary tradition. Fun and surprising at times. Highly recommend.

It's not something I would use for my students. Just silly.

A fun story, easy to read, great for all beginner-elementary learners of Spanish. Full of illustrations and can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to read a fun story and learn a bit more about Spanish culture.The book is written with a lot of repetition of the key vocabulary and phrases to help remember them better. There is a dictionary at the end and notes with useful words and their English translations throughout the book, which helps English speakers understand and consolidate the vocabulary.

This book is so engaging and helpful for Spanish learners! I loved it so much I ordered it for all of my students and convinced my team teachers to do the same. We are going to use it as our first ever classroom novel this year!! This is really well done and caters perfectly to my middle schoolers interests as well.
