Classic looks and performance
I received this pen about a week ago. Since then I’ve been using it at work where as a nurse I chart many pages of notes on my patients every night.I was immediately impressed with the pen. It’s finish is a mesmerizing pattern of small and large carbon fibre squares. The cap has a very functional spring clip that holds secure but is not sharp so it doesn’t tear or catch on my pocket. There is also attractive crest embossed on the finial. The pen closes with a satisfying positive click that lets you know it’s closed. The cap also posts very securely and is comfortable to use when posted. The pen has a fair bit of weight for its size but is not too heavy. I don’t like many convertor style pens as the reservoirs usually hold a tiny amount of ink. This pen has a large Schmidt style convertor that holds a generous quantity of ink.Now about the most important part of the pen, the nib. The nib is a very attractive glossy black. It is embossed with the logo and an M as I ordered a medium. Upon doing my usual pre inking flush I filled the pen with Diamine Blue Velvet. On putting the pen to paper I found the nib very smooth, laying down a nice medium line. I liked the buttery smoothness of this nib from the first. After a week of heavy use my opinion has not changed. This pen is a keeper and will be staying in my work pen rotation. I highly recommend this pen as a good value for the money.

Very nice pen.
This pen has a great feel to it. It is quite hefty but it works well. The only issue is that I could not seem to 'suck' the ink through the pen tip. I had to separate the ink chamber and directly use that. Not sure if this is the intended usage. The tutorials I have seen online say that you should submerge the tip in ink, but this did not work.

I am an expensive pen junkie, but I am also a Hongdian pen junkie!
I have many very expensive pens, into the thousands, but I often reach for and most often have one of these black pens in my breast pocket. The Hongdian Black Forest line is extremely well designed, has great weight and for the cost of the pen how they ever got such a smooth nib I will never know. I have EF a F in the regular steel Black Forest, but just this week I received the new carbon fiber bodied model. Its a bit beefier, aka thicker, also has great weight and its M nib is Uber smooth and honestly a joy to write with. I’ve had more than a few compliments and comments from friends who have seen the pen. As I have said previously, this pen is better than most anything else I have tried that is in the price category of 5-10X the cost of the pen. All of my use is relatively short term as I haven’t had any of them much more than a year but these seem like they will have durability for the long haul.

Bittersweet
I ordered a few of these and just got the brass one. The nibs from my 1851 and other Hongdian pens screw right in, so that’s a win so far. I am going to update this review once the carbon fiber and steel versions get here. This pen is the same size as an 1851 but slightly different so the caps aren’t interchangeable.Oct 14th 2022 update. The pen I got looks ok but everything else was lost. The carbon fiber one, the stainless one, several nibs, and ink. So, I’m not able or really interested in doing an in depth review at the moment. It does come with a nib but not one I plan on using. If you do order one of these, make sure it ships with something *big*. About 3/4 pens I have ordered in the last month have been lost before I could even get them.
