It is just suction. Works very well.

Q: How hard is it to switch to hard floors from carpet? How hard is it to adjust the carpet settings?

There is a one button toggle to go from hard floors to carpet - it is a matter of using the button to put on the roller brush - that you probably want on your rugs, but not on your hard floors. I don't adjust the carpet setting at all - but the suck power has a thick dial that you dial into the setting that feels right for you. I leave it up on volume 11 lol - all the way turned up, that is.

WE use on vinyl floors. When cleaning canister and filters once per week significant amount of dust and dirt particles including cat litter tracked by cat. On flat hard floors we use maximum suction and do not hurry.
