It is great, but by design of the X8 there is a slight issue.
I got the Wind Muff For DR40 X8 DR07 specifically for the Tascam Portacapture X8.It fits and it feels solid, but when the mic capsules are facing inwards they press the foam on each other flattening it a bit, but if you rotate them they go away.It just is something that can't be avoided due to the fact the capsules are so close.You could instead opt for a cover that goes around the whole top part instead of each mic capsule.I honestly only got them since they were so cheap I thought it would be good to have some permanently on the top and to also protect the mic capsules.It works great is exactly what I was looking for.

If shopping for X8 avoid
Doesnt fit x8. Elastic broke attempting to put on. Product isn’t deep enough to fit over mics. Was worth a shot but avoid

Decent fit, no complaints, DR40X
Reasonably easy to put on. There's a little space in the ends once installed but that shouldn't hurt anything. What surprised me is that the mics can be folded in with the foam still on with very little trouble. So they could just be left on, but they're not too hard to get off either. I didn't notice any problems stretching them to get them on and off, so I think they should hold up to a reasonable amount of installation/removal.

A far price a great fit
So good so far they cut down on wind noise a little and that's always good. I doubt this works as good as a real wind screen for out side but it is better than none. Fit good and snug they won't fall

Great accessory for the DR40
These black wind muffs fit the DR40 well and do a good job eliminating wind noise in field recordings. They are a little tight to get on, but will not slide off in use. The microphones can't be folded inwards when they are installed, so a carrying case for your recorder and accessories may be useful.

Tight fit on X8, elastic band might break during installation
Like another reviewer, one of the muffs' elastic band snapped as I was trying to put it on my device. They include a spare muff in the package, but I don't dare remove them now that they are on.

It's going to block the microphone movement
I dig the grey color and nothing else about a couple of over priced, teensy, tiny, fluffy wind guards.

Fragile
Unfortunately, for one of these muffs, the elastic loop inside this broke the first time I attempted to put it on. It was very tight. Now it's too loose to stay on.
