Q: Hello, are the holes big? Will bigger birds (parrots) be able to reach for the nuts?

Hi there, Not sure about parrots as they have a broader beak so they may have trouble getting a decent enough grip on the peanuts. The squirrels certainly can't pull the nuts outs even with their sharp teeth and claws. I think it would also depend on where you have it hanging, and whether larger birds can perch close enough. What I do is fill it with both peanuts and suet pellets, the pellets stick out so the larger birds should be able to grab them. I tend to sprinkle nuts around on the ground and the larger birds eat that (and also clean up anything that drops from the feeder). Hope this helps!

Q: Can you use this for 'crushed' peanuts rather than whole ones please. Don't like the idea of the birds choking especially the youngsters.

Half peanuts would be fine,any smaller could fall out or blow away. Don't worry about using whole nuts because the birds would not get them out whole.

Q: I bought one, and inside a tiny bag inside the feeder was an l shaped piece of metal. what is that for? isno instructions, no obvious aperture for it.

It's an allen key—a previous query regarding how to detach the base for cleaning was given this reply: "... a small allen key with it (it was inside the feeder) which you need to unscrew the perches and then the base will come off". Hope this helps!

Hi Sheila, No would not think so as the pellets will fall through ..plus Birds will toss them everywhere! You can find suet pellets holders on here so suggest you look for one of those although we didn't get on to well with ours and I ended up mixing them with meal worms and putting just enough for one day in a bowl! (Went down Well) Hope this helps!
