Nautical Rope Doorstop ~ Natural Brown Monkey's Fist Knot Door Stop

We wanted a simple, non-fussy doorstop mainly to hold the front door open in the summer months. Rope doorstops such as this are to be found everywhere these days - yet we'd been searching for a couple of years for something just right. So why THIS rope doorstop? Undeniably the price is great and the colour is very natural looking. Having looked at quite a few of these things before settling on this version from Carousel Home, the colour is also a little less light than many of those currently available - much less likely to pick up dirt and look shop-soiled in record time. The doorstop is a good, functional, heavy weight too - it works! It even complements wooden flooring if you're after something fairly unobtrusive. But most satisfying of all - and this is not the case for some rope doorstops I've handled - when placed perpendicularly on the floor it actually STAYS upright and doesn't lean a little to one side which would cause minor dismay for years to come. So get it right the first time - this doorstop is the perfectionist's choice!

Absolutely love this door stop. Looks so different to anything else I’ve seen on the market. Heavy enough to hold open a heavy door but not too heavy that you can’t lift it.Love it. Highly recommend. Arrived earlier than expected to.

Using this door stop to keep back door open, hold door well even in strong winds and look good.The dog however was very disappointed that it was not a toy for him. When I first put it down he run off down the garden with it, but has left it alone since told to "leave"

Really good for what we need. Our doors are quite lightweight and they do a great job of keeping them open even when all the windows are open. I note some reviewers have had issues with them rolling / not being heavy enough. If you have doors that are particularly heavy then I could see that these might not be up to the job.

I’d ordered one of these in January 2023, fulfilled by My Square Mile, and it was excellent quality. Once the weather got warmer I decided to get 4 more to stop doors slamming when we open windows etc in summer, so placed another order in April 2023.This second order was fulfilled by Carousel Shop and delivered quickly. Identical listing, but slightly better price and a multi buy discount.The quality is shocking by comparison. Tied poorly so not a neat, tight monkey’s fist knot, instead lumpen and misshaped. Poorer quality jute rope, not as tightly coiled which is really clear on the floppy, longer handle (geeky I know but I’m a skipper so I know my rope). The weight is visible on all four, but two are particularly bad. One has a handle almost falling off, and all four had multiple visible lumps of glue.Fourth photo shows the comparison. The one I originally bought weighs 1972g. The poor quality ones only weigh 1376g, which may explain why some people have had issues with the weight being sufficient for the purpose.Returning for a refund and hoping that an order from My Square Mile instead gives me more of the good quality ones.

This is a brilliant doorstop with a quirky/stylish look. It may not be heavy enough to hold open a heavy fire door as other reviews have mentioned (but why would you want to hold a fire door open?) but its certainly enough to hold a household door open. Although it looks like a ball there are flat sides to the knot so it doesn't roll if the draught catches the door. I'd recommend it for normal household use.

Rope is simple wrapped around rather than properly under and over as a monkeys fist should be. Looks fine at a distance and what a cheap Amazon purchase would get you anyway.
