Artemio 14001643 Wooden Book Box, Beige

I bought these as I wanted interesting gift boxes for some little presents.These boxes are the size of fairly large books in depth, normal book in length.The wood is plain and unfinished which was s great as you can give it the finish you want, for example I sanded, stained, added some gold painted design and sealed one and the other I did a decoupage technique using just pcs and pretty tissue paper, I sealed that with yacht varnish also just because I know the recipient will be handling the box a lot, even though pva does make its own kind of sealant, note if using yacht varnish ensure to use a brand that is specifically non- yellowing, I used a spray can bought here on Amazon just because it gives me thinner layers than using a tin and brush.The hinges work really well, they are well made, just a little rough but a quick rub down with some 100 or 120 grit sandpaper also available here on Amazon, and you have a beautiful wooden box.The hinge is magnetic, it works well except where I decoupaged one and thereby increased the gap so I just glued another magnet on one side and that now works again.The closing magnets are recessed and hidden, the hinges are well placed so they look like old book spine armature so not out of place, if you wanted to decorate it to look like a real book, no one would know it opened up as the grain of the wood along the page side is milled to replicate pages so that works really well also.Overall very happ with these book style hinged wooden storage boxes.

Used box for pyrography. Just what I wanted.

For a box priced below 8 pounds I wasn't expecting perfection and its actually pretty good, definitely worth the price. However mine was not without issues. The hinges where loose both in construction and fitting, each of which I could fix quite easily. More tricky to correct was the misalignment of the magnets that form the catch, causing the lid to fall open very easily, they where out in both plains and need to be prised out, the holes made good and then the magnet refitted. As many buyers will be purchasing these boxes as projects, faults of this nature are not deal killers but be prepared to do some remedial work before starting on decoration and finish.

Looks great on first look then realised some of the corners were damaged and the middle has a chip in it. The lid is slant which is obvious on the spine so when it is stood up it’s crooked. I don’t think it could be realigned as the magnet wouldn’t line up. It is also smaller than it says measuring at 15cm w, 20.9cm l, 6.5cm h. It also came with no protective packaging just in a brown envelope from amazon but the sealed plastic the box came in wasn’t damaged so it was clearly damaged while it was made. Other than the size being wrong it’s decent, a shame about the damage and wonky lid.

I bought this book box to decorate. A bit pricey but I couldn't find similar anywhere. It is sweet.

A little rough around the edges, but this could have happened during dispatch. Easily sorted with some sandpaper. The hinges are good quality and fixed well but the magnet is weak so depending on what’s in side the box and the boxes position it doesn’t always remain closed.The box is a good shape and the front and rear panels offer ample space for your own designs and is suitable for pyrography
