Q: How do you make the soft close work? I installed and it does nothing.

In the middle adjust with an Allen wrench

Q: I installed & tightened hex. still no soft close. What am i doing wrong?

It does not soft close, but keeps the lid up until it is closed.

Q: Do I have to use regular hinges in addition to this or can these be the only ones?

you must use regular hinges for the drawer to be anchored to the cabinet. These hinges prevent the slamming down of the drawer as well as hold it up or open if you so choose. They are more of a hold open type of hinge. You can use a piano hinge or several small hinges to connect the drawer to the cabinet.
