Push a button on top with your thumb But if she’s got a weak hand ,as you say,you probably best to avoid and find one with a slide action

"D" but if you haven't bought it. Don't. Dreadful torch with a very weak beam

Q: How many hours will it last with 2 batteries as opposed to 4

I can say mine was on for a good few days before I realised I left it on in the shed. Quoted times on alkaline batteries are 400hrs for 4xD so it should be about 200hrs for 2xD much less for cheapo zinc batteries

Q: are batteries included

I cant remember, I'm 70%sure they were not included. What I can say is that you have option of using either 2 or 4 D size batteries . I use 2 batteries and it is bright enough and they have lasted a long time.
