Beautiful detail pieces. My favorite version of Chinese chess.
I really love this game, but as somebody who has a very hard time discerning between Chinese characters, having pieces shaped as the actual form is extremely helpful and makes the game much more enjoyable for me. This is also a great way to introduce children to the game. I enhanced it a little bit and labeled the characters by their Vietnamese labels. The pictures I uploaded, I added labels myself with sharpie. I really like the detail that you can see in each piece. The bottom of the pieces is a little bit rough and not lined with felt. However I am happy to overlook that considering how detailed the pieces are. They seem to be made from a resin. They are not made from stone. The game mat Is a little bit low-quality and the color is very ugly. But I think this is much better than having a cheap and flimsy cardboard game board. However I think if they were to put a nice white dual color vinyl mat instead - it would be much better. This is the only one of its kind out there. I am very happy with what I received. I think if the pieces were a little more flat/sanded at the base it would be even better. A little more quality control on the bottom surface of the pieces. However it is a small criticism and I am still very happy with what I received.

Great.
It's a decent Xiangqi chess set. It would be great if it comes with a bag for the whole set.

If you like chess grab one of these while you can
Xiangqi or "Chinese Chess" is a great alternative to traditional chess and had its own complexity and history. These kinds of sets help get people into the game without having to first learn the Chinese characters. Between GO, Chinese Chess, Military Chess, Showing, even Viking Chess there's a lot of exciting games to play.

Nice set
I bought this for my husband. He is very particular about his games and things he collects. He really liked this one. So I guess I would recommend it to others.

Great Intro Game to Chinese Chess
I teach Ancient History and I taught my students Chinese Chess. Some of them were able to use the normal pieces with the Chinese characters on them, but many of them perferred this set because they could focus on remembering how the pieces move rather than figuring out which piece was which. My set is a good size and works well, but one of the white pieces was chipped which is why I said it wasn't as good for gifting.

good
i like the figurines compared to the round chinese letter pieces harder to remember. i bought this for my kids. I think if the platform was made of wood or plastic something not cloth would have been excellent product. otherwise for the price it works fine.

Cool visually, practically kind of sucks to play with (compared to other regular xiangqi sets)
There is no easy case with this, say rather using round pieces where you can easily just throw all of them in and be done with after finishing, this case you have to manually fit each figure into a the included cardboard box or you could get your own container. That is just a minor setback. The main thing I kind of do not like and prefer actual practical pieces like one set where the are circular magnetic pieces (with Chinese on top) and comes with a hard board is so much more practical then these not so great quality but cool looking pieces that comes with a leather board.Yes, you can argue you can fix these problems easily, like with your own better container, and just put the leather game board on something solid, but there is also the functionality of the pieces being less fast pace-able to play a match with. Overall, I might be going on for nothing, I just think that these practicality is a letter worse then as I have described above (the competition).
