A beautifully made film
In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful films I have ever watched. The interaction between the characters has been carefully choreographed so that the viewer is gently lead through the story. The sound track is also perfectly matched. If you like this film I would recommend The Makanai by the same director and musical director.

Heart Warming!
A beautiful portrayal of the relationships between (mainly) female family members. There are hardly any dramatic turns in the film, but the beauty is in the detailed study of the individual characters within the story, and their inter-relationships. It is a rare thing(sadly) to witness such an innocent narrative, but it is worth the effort.

Fantastic Film - Worth 6 Stars
The great point of this film is how subtle it is. The plot sits in the background as we are invited to spend time with the family as they adjust after their estranged fathers death and the discovery of a new younger sister who they invite to live with them on a whim. The acting from all 4 sisters is first class and the direction is perfect throughout. The director tells the story without creating any great drama's or dramatic moments which makes it all the better. The Japanese scenery is also a star of the movie from the train journey to the wonderful scene of the younger sister on the back of a bike riding though the cherry blossoms. Its a film that will lift your spirits and we liked it so much we watched it again the following night.

A little sad, positive and very touching movie
This is a beautiful movie about all the important things in life. The story is told very subtly, very different to how a Western movie would have been made. Nothing much is seemingly going on, no strong emotions are showing, but there is a feeling every single person has to deal with scars and burns left by past mistakes made by parents and grandparents - and learn how to forgive and accept and move on. It is a story that all actions have consequences and we will all have to make choices in life. Through little things like enjoying hanami (Sakura flowering season), plum wine making, having meals together, taking care of their old house, interacting with their community we can see what holds the sisters together and why they are so strong as a family. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Enjoyed this. I like the way it portrays choice ...
Enjoyed this. I like the way it portrays choice and how important it is. It works well. Even when a more lonely path is chosen. Japan is nowhere near perfect but the UK doesn't really produce films that cheer up people, while still respecting a right to move out of the main stream. People here tend to be seen as weird not interesting. Dull lack of respect. Trickle down. If your not making a profit for a company and your poor. You are seen as disposable...hi hum

This is a film to watch and watch again
An excellent lazy day film that can be watched and watched again. There are not many films that one can just bathe in and revel in, and repeat time again. This is one of them.
