Works very well, found my leaks
I was specifically looking for a product that did the following:- used electronic method for finding leaks; I despise using soap or ultraviolet- used one of the following electronic methods: Corona; heated diode; ultrasonic- uses normal batteries (this one uses 4 AAA); some models use C batteries which I don't have a recharging system forThis one uses the Corona method which means:"The instrument uses two electrodes with a current of a known baseline passing between the two electrodes. If there’s a leak present, the refrigerant will pass through the electrodes and, in turn, interfere with it (it causes a drop in the current). The drop in current will sound an alarm. The more the interference, the higher the concentration and the larger the refrigerant leak."It's a tried and true method. I was able to easily find my leaks with this product. You must let the product "heat up" for about 10 seconds before you use it. Just turn it on, and hang out for 10 seconds. Finally, the unit beeps all the time...maybe about once a second...while it's in detection mode. That might irritate you. It doesn't bother me. If it finds a leak, the beeping speeds up significantly which is easy for my ears to hear. If you don't want to hear it beep all the time which it's detecting, get the newer model that they sell. Costs a little more.Overall, I am very happy with this product. Good bye soap!

Great for home DIYers for HVAC & vehicles.
This CFC "Sniffer" is exactly as described. It isn't a top of the line sniffer but, it doesn't pretend to be. It found leaks in both my home HVAC and truck A/C which is what I needed. The home HVAC system had no dye in it, so it just used air density and movement as well as the make up of the R-22 refrigerant to find a general air disturbance then turned up the sensitivity to use the chemical make up of T-22 to direct exactly to the leak, which was in an insulated low pressure line so, i would have never seen an oil build up or drip to find the leak. As soon as i peeled the insulation back, it directed me right to a pin-hole leak in a joint the someone welded/soldered in 2007, then , on my old Square body Tahoe, the A/C was leaking so long (I'd put a pound of 134a in it every year for about 6 years,) the entire engine bay lit up under the UV light on the meter at night (Even without the yellow glasses) but the sniffer lead me to the leak which was exactly where I expected it to be, the thin gasket where the charge port bolts to the compressor AND the Shrader valve itself (always change your Schraders when you evacuate the system, with no exceptions they will leak eventually). So overall , it did its job well. I just couldn't use it every day or in a shop environment as the body isn't built to take multiple drops, accidental hits from tools Ect... As for a home DYIer, absolutely would recommend for the home garage , basement or shed tool set. Just keep it in a hard case with silica moisture absorbing packs in them. I use a small plastic $5 harbor freight ammo can with a desiccant bag in it to absorb moisture. It's not one of my Snap-on tools so, I'm not going to cry if someone breaks it or otherwise messes it up but I do like even my welfare tools to work when I need them. And this one seems to be built to last if you treat it as the tool it is for the money and take the extra 5 seconds to store it properly.

Believe it or not, it works!
I bought this fully intending to return it. I double checked that I could before ordering it. When it got here I carefully opened it and saved the box. I used it to chase down a leak on a car air conditioning system. I had also put dye in the system, but it was a very slow leak and the dye wasn't telling me where the leak was. This device kept sounding off where a sensor connected to the receiver/dryer. I took the sensor out and replaced the o-ring, and now the system is fixed! My experience with cheaper devices like this tells me to take the batteries out when not in use, because the battery fumes will end up destroying the internals of the device.

It works but not very great.
The beep is very loud and the UV light is useless during the day unless you are in a garage with light off.The sniffer doesn't work as well as i would like. I got this item to try to verify my evaporator core was leaking or if it was and o'ring somewhere. I was able to verify my evap was leaking by sticking the probe into my vent. I could smell the feron on my own but it took about 30 seconds even with the dial maxed out before it started beeping. and after i removed the sensor to fresh air it would no stop beeping, even after i turned it off for 10 mins. I had to disassemble the tip and blow it out, then it finally quit. Also after using it a few other times, it would randomly just start beeping like it detected something falsely. I then noticed inside the probe end under the screw cap, the little spring action tip was not making good contact with the screw on head. I pulled the tip out a little bit and it now makes good contact and had stopped the false alarms. I think this may have been the issue with my first use.

Find your Mr. Cool mini split leak
If you're looking for a low cost option to find a leak in your AC system, this will do the job. I needed a leak detector to determine which component of my Mr. Cool mini split system has a leak. I found it with this tool within a few minutes. Easy to use, great price.

Surprising good
Unexpected that such an inexpensive sniffer works so well. Helped find an evaporator leak by sniffing the condensate on the garage floor. Amazing.
