This should be on every woman’s bookshelf
I purchased this book as a follow up read to Davina McCalls menopausing book and after watching her documentary which was in collaboration with Kate Muir. So glad I found all of this very informed well researched information on menopause and early surgically induced menopause. The info supplied here is easy to understand well explained and very useful if you are a women either suffering peri meno or full on in hell like I was after 27 years suffering unknowingly from early menopause symptoms due to hysterectomy at a very young age and being told outright that hrt was a no go! This will be my reference bible to get me to a more calm and comfortable life and I highly recommend every woman and their partner reads it. Very well put together honest and at times hilariously funny book but full of truth facts and very useful references that I will be passing to all my midlife menopausal pals. I cannot recommend this highly enough and it will lead women to a greater understanding of why they are feeling unlike themselves. I loved that it addressed this subject from many angles and very inclusive of everyone. Brilliant book. Highly recommend it.

life changing and life saving
For someone who had asked the GP a year ago about the menopause and HRT when suffering from debilitating exhaustion, inability to sleep and increasing irregularity and unpredictability of periods, and who was diagnosed with Vitamin D insufficiency and told to go and get my own high dose of Vitamin D from the chemist (they can tell you how much you need), this book has been a life line. The same medic told me last year - aged 48 (making me feel so ashamed that I had even I had dared to take up their precious appointment time to ask about the symptoms I was experiencing and whether they meant the onset of menopause) that until my periods had stopped completely for at least a year then I was not in the menopause and there was nothing that I needed or they could do to help me. So this book has been a real affirmation of what I am experiencing and that i am not, in fact, going mad, as there is something real happening to me. Fast forward a year to an increasing number of times that I have forgotten words that have been in my vocabulary my whole life and several occasions where I can’t remember agreeing to do things at work (so that even I was wondering if I had early onset Alzheimer’s) and I have an appointment booked at my GP (telephone - of course - and a week after I tried to get one) who is listed as the GP at the practice specialising in the menopause. It took the receptionist about 5 minutes (whilst I was on hold) to find out if there was such a GP. I am much more confident I can get help (and the right kind) having finished your book as it gives me the information I need. So thank you sincerely. It remains to be seen if I will be able to get that help from my GP at that appointment. But at B least I will know if the expert GP knows the facts! As someone whose grandmother died from Alzheimer’s, and whose mum had breast cancer aged 65, this book has probably saved my life!

A good and mostly wide ranging book
This is an excellent book which covers a wide range of issues and has good practical advice, especially on mood swings, physical symptoms, relationships and reduced sex drive. It also reflects on the experiences of lesbian couples, trans men, and the impact of the andropause. One specific thing to be aware of - the blurb and some of the early chapters suggest it will also cover the much less well-resourced subject of the “sex surge”, where women struggle with heightened libido, and although the book does reflect that it exists, it doesn’t actually provide specific advice on this. The book says it will cover it in chapter 12 but then doesn't, as it only really mentions it in chapter 5. So if you are looking for help on this particular issue this may not be the best resource.Chapter 12 is, though, really valuable on the dynamics of relationships, and how the hormone changes in both partners can impact them.

Brilliant book.
Lots of excellent information. I found myself underlining info so I could talk to my GP. If I could afford to I would buy it for all my friends to read Every woman 40 upwards must read this. Better health for women, it's not just about hot flushes anymore. Women need to be aware that HRT helps prevent other health issues too, dementia and heart conditions to name a few.Excellent book to gain knowledge about your own body and the aging process.

EVERY WOMAN NEEDS THIS BOOK - AMAZING
This book is well researched and up to date. EVERY woman needs this book! This books highlights the INEQUALITIES for women regarding care and medication not only whilst in the menopause but after the menopause too. I have studied endless research surrounding the Menopause but I only read a few pages from this book and found out more than all the hours I have researched. It describes how every women are not receiving or being given the correct choices of medication and how different social economic class effects this. People or TV stars can afford effective medication that suits their body and hormones whilst people who are unemployed are not able to access this. Furthermore, it is written in plain English that is clear and easy to understand. I wanted to give this book a lot more stars and wish every woman could have access to it. The information has provided me with the knowledge to fight for what I should be entitled to.

Brilliant advice on the change of life
This is a really well written and researched account of the menopause and I learned a great deal from it. It goes into what can go wrong, what can help or hinder your symptoms and health, and importantly, it’s very well informed through the author’s contact with experts in the field. After reading this, I feel armed to have an informed conversation with my GP now! I’ve been recommending this book to friends. It’s a must for women who are reaching the age of perimenopause (or those experiencing it at any age, as it can happen to much younger women for various reasons).I highly recommend this for understanding all about the menopause.

Quite medical approach
Very detailed in some areas but lacking in others I felt. A lot of in depth medical stuff, was hoping for more down to earth approach. Gained plenty of information but still seeking more personal insight.
