Ottomans & Suleiman
The Ottoman Empire - you will learn how the Ottoman empire rose in the last part of the 13th century in Anatolia, the expansion of the empire by attracting the mass of nomadic tribes and other wanderers seeking to expand the territory of Islam and taking over territories once held by the Byzantine Empire. Over the centuries the Ottomans controlled most of southeastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Read about all of this and up to it disintegration and partition after WW I.Suleiman (Suleyman) - a great man of his time and can be compared to his contemporaries (Henry VIII, Louis XII, Sher Shah Suri). Becoming sultan at the age of 26, expanding the empire further, to transforming the empire into an economic powerhouse. He created legal code and law, reformed the tax system, built schools and graced the arts.Much more information is in these books and may give its reader insight to the Turkey of today.

Excellent book short history lesson
I have really enjoyed reading this author’s books. I have read several now. I’m not particularly fond of reading history but I’m really interested in learning about history and these books are perfect for people like me. They give just the right amount of information without being too overwhelming.

The Ottomans!
If you are a student of history or are planning to travel to Turkey, this is a great read to go through. There is a lot of information that I feel explains what we see in the news today. This is also a great lead in to the creation of Turkey, why Turkey is what Turkey is, and why we see what is happening to Turkey now.

A dry book, poorly read on Audible
The book was short, so I didn't expect as much texture as a longer book could provide. By and large it is a recitation of names, places and dates with insufficient context or elucidating stories. But the worst feature was the Audible reading, which was beyond irritating. The reader's grating intonations and mispronounced words detracted from appreciating the text.
