Beautiful book
I am a community midwife and recommend this book to everyone planning a homebirth with older siblings! My own children absolutely love it, and my youngest even took it into school as his favourite book for world book day!! Beautifully illustrated and pitched absolutely right for children to understand what a homebirth can be like. Thank you Jenni for creating such a positive and loving book.

Fabulous and honest!
The only birth book that is constructively honest with children. Actually uses the word pain but in a positive way and shows an honest depiction of where a baby comes from but without being graphic or inappropriate for my 3yr old.She often asks to read it and we talk about how pain is a good thing because it tells the mum when the baby is coming and she knows what to do with the pain and isn't scared bevause she knows she's really strong. It's a great conversation starter & although we aren't planning on a home birth it is still applicable to her learning. I'd say an essential purchase for anyone planning a sibling home birth. We need more honest beautiful books like this.Probably not great for 2yrs and under but my 3-3.5 yr old really engages :)

Beautiful home birth book
Great for explaining and preparing small children for a home birth, or even just educating children about birth. A cosy book with a lovely mix of atmospheric illustrations, storytelling and honest facts about birth. How many picture books contain images of placentas? But this is done tastefully, beautifully and should delight little ones.

What a beautiful book 😭😭😭
I can't recommend this book enough. It's so so beautiful. I've been reading it with my almost 3 year old for a few weeks now. Due tomorrow and got a home birth planned. Definitely buy this book to share if you're planning a home birth.

It was good to prepare her for the possibility of being present ...
My son is now 12 weeks old and his big sister still wants this story! It was good to prepare her for the possibility of being present at my homebirth and enable her to ask any questions in advance. My only thing is I would have liked it to be more relevant to my home life, it is based on a family who live in the woods and sleep by the fire. There's no birth pool or gas and air, but the story is told in a very gentle way and is tastefully illustrated.

My two year old loves this story. Its could ...
My two year old loves this story. Its could be for older children too but she loves it. It is preparing her for our home birth. The fact that there will be other people at home helping, that mummy will shout loudly and pace around etc. and that she wont be getting all the attention. She loves seeing the baby come out and finding out what sex it is.

Would highly reccomend for anyone with a child wanting a home birth
This is a beautifully illustrated, loving book which brought a tear to my eye the first time I read it! It's open and honest without being scary or gory! My 20 month old loved reading this in anticipation for our home birth. She still loves reading it now that our baby is here. I think it helped to prepare her for the baby's arrival, whereas most books the parents go off and come back with a baby and the older child has no idea how the baby got there. Would highly reccomend.

My 3 year old loves this book
Awesome book! A favorite for my older toddler who is very excited with the concept of pregnancy and babies being born. As we prepare for having another baby he has had many questions and this book gave him a frame work to understand. I often hear him repeating to my 1 year old things from the book like, when mommy is in labor she may cry and shout a little but that’s ok, contractions come to help the baby out and it’s just what it’s like to have a baby, she will feel better if mommy shouts a little when the new baby is born. The artwork is becoming and age appropriate in my opinion, it shows enough to answer major questions but is also tasteful and not too graphic. We plan to have another home birth and possibly have our other kids present if they choose to be so this was a great find for us.

Great resource!
We purchased a few different books similar to this for the kids and they were all wonderful at painting a picture of what to expect. Highly recommend this book!!We also did Mommy’s Having a Homebirth, our Water Baby, Welcome Home and Pearl Becomes a Big Sister: A Waterbirth Story.
