you may need two
So I thought I would give these a try, I had the Chicken and Rice and the turkey Chili. Both had great flavor, and the package heated up fast and stayed hot for a long time. I always add some spice to my backpacking meals, yet with this one there was no real need. Light weight and stores in my pack well. Only real issue was the portion size was a bit small. I had just hiked the Grotto in Zion National Park, sat down for the Chili and wished I had brought two. Not the most filling, lets up they increase the portion size and this will be perfect for a two or even five day trip.

It actually tastes good for what it is.
I bought these to stock up and keep back just in case. Keep in mind, this is not fine dining. It's not a restaurant or even fast food. It's a meal designed for survival in my opinion. Sure you could take it to work for lunch or something but for the price of these, there's cheaper options for that. In a survival situation, I'm confident that everyone would not mind eating it at all if it was the only meal they had.I think they taste great compared to the other brands and actual MREs I've tried. It's just a bit small to be considered 2 servings. For most people, after eating 1, I believe you'll still be hungry.

Fantastic quality, but could be bigger
I initially thought these were simply freeze dried meals, but realizing they are effectively MREs. These are self contained retort pouches with a flameless ration heater (FRH). Heating the meal is ridiculously easy with just a few ounce of water. Once warmed up, carefully remove the pouch (you can use the latent heat from the heater to keep you warm) and dig in. Because the pouches have a fully pre-cooked entree, there's no need adjusting moisture or being concerned about burned parts. The utensil bad comes with extra salt and pepper for taste, but I found these to be quite good on their own. Flavor is exceptional, however portion size may leave you wanting as it only covers a few hundred calories. Well seasoned, very hearty, even consistency. Best to supplement with other food items.

Good Backup When the Power Goes Out
I bought some of these for my regular hurricane prep kit and ended up using them during the recent Texas freeze. As another reviewer noted, sometimes you just don't want to get out your jet boil and boil water for something freeze-dried. These are convenient. Another advantage is that you don't have to have clean water, since the food itself is in a sealed pouch. I found the pasta sauces a little sweet for my taste, but not everyone feels the same way about these things. The main disadvantage with these is the portion size, and I usually prefer smaller portions, so that's saying something. But I'm definitely reordering. For anyone buying for winter outage prep, these meals have the added advantage that you can warm up your hands or feet with the bag after you take out the food! However, I recommend letting the food heat for at least five minutes longer than the instructions indicate.
