Fendrihan Essential Apothecary Shaving Mug (Black)

A very fine porcelin mug. Well crafted and nice looking.

Bought this mug and immediately dropped a new bar of mug soap into it. I could not wait to shave with it. Keeps the lather inside really well. Stays in my hand easily and I am not afraid of dropping it. I am a big guy and most mugs look like Espresso mugs in my hands, but this one is a good size and I can grip it well even when my mug hand is wet from the shave. Stop being weird, if you are getting into Wet Shaving - give this guy a grab. Now, you may notice I also own a metal shaving bowl, which I love, but I like having multiple soaps to mix a lather-Frankenstein when I go under the blade. The metal one from a popular company is a great piece of kit, but much smaller than I wanted. The mug here is the size I wanted...so it is my go to now.

This shave-soap cup is perfect for my needs, nice design - instead of a handle, like a coffee cup type, it is shortened - making the cup easy to hold steady even with wet hand and it will discourage others from mistaking it for a drinking cup. The size is good, it is deep enough to hold a full shave soap puck and still have plenty of room to load the shave brush without spilling over the sides. It's good quality too; I placed it into a pan of water, raised the stove temperature to medium to heat water surround this cup - in order to melt the shave soap puck to the form of the cup; there was no issue with the cup in the hot water or after. It's an excellent item and price.

It's a decent mug, as good as any I've owned. It's a good shape and capacity, excellent for working up a nice lather. Definitely worth the money.

You know I don't give every product I buy 5 stars. It needs to be exactly as advertised, good quality, and price has to be right. This one fits the bill. I hesitated because I saw some bad reviews, and because another almost identical shaving mug from a well known company was selling here for 38 bucks. I am very glad I took the chance. This mug is nice and big, very stylish, and the handle makes it easy to hold. All that for much less than the other name brand. What more can you ask for?

So my ultimate shaving experience utilizes TWO bowls: one for the shaving puck and the second, the above Fendrihan shaving mug. to whip up the lather. Why a bowl AND a mug? Well, lightly run the brush on the puck in the bowl first for about 10 seconds and then whipping up the lather in a hot-water-primed Fendrihan mug next for about 45 seconds will create hot lather in an easily cleanable mug and keep the shaving puck in the stainless steel bowl pretty clean and not covered with lather.Simply prime the mug by running very hot water in it. This will heat the mug and will warm the whipped lather.Wet the shaving brush (I use a synthetic brush - saves the Asian badgers) with a very small amount of hot water - NOT TOO MUCH! Then briefly run the brush in circular motion atop the puck in the stainless steel bowl. I do this for only about 10 seconds which builds up a little bit of lather on the bush - not enough to shave with yet but doen't mess up the puck.Then take the brush out of the stainless steel bowl and push it down in the Fendrihan mug. This releases the soap from the brush into the mug. Finally, whip the soap in the warmed mug for about 45 seconds. This builds up quite a bit of lather from the small amount the brush disgorged from the puck.The puck will stay clean because you do not do the whipping in the bowl containing the puck and will last for a fairly long time.

I’ve been using a mug and a brush for years. My old mug was chipped and needed replaced. I like the handle and the large “bowl” to create the lather. All in all a great purchase
