Bresser AR90- excellent value, grab-and-go scope
I bought one of these as my first scope. As soon as I got it out of the box I was incredibly pleased with the quality of the scope and mount. Assembly was dead easy, taking only a couple of minutes. The mount seemed rigid and well built. The whole telescope looked very good in its white and red colour, and fitted in perfectly in the house. The following weeks of use it became immediately apparent that the scope needed a higher power eyepiece. The 26mm provided (whilst very good in quality) provides little zoom at all. I was advised to buy a 9mm eyepiece, as being a 90mm aperture telescope, the scope is unlikely to display satisfactory resolution at a higher magnification than provided through 9mm eyepiece. The 9mm eyepiece was a fantastic improvement. Jupiter looked sharp and showed clear details, the moon was incredible. The quality of the optics in this scope is brilliant.Mars proved to be bright but small. You can just make out the icecaps, but I have been told that you need a very big telescope to bring Mars to life, this being 90mm I wasn't expecting much as it is such a small planet.I bought a solar filter for it, which I would advise to anyone. It is amazing watching the development of sunspots during the day.One issue I have had with this scope is the diagonal where the thread for the lens screw unfortunately wore very quickly. But I will not give this a 4 star rating as everything else about this scope- value, performance, build quality and looks has been 5 star +Overall a fantastic grab-and-go scope!
