We had a 2009 iMac 27 that could not upgrade to Catalina, and a son with a 2019 13" MacbookPro as a CS major, needing more screen real estate while in xCode. This cable nailed it in one. Just put the iMac into target mode by hitting F2, and bang, welcome to a two-monitor system. Much better than the previously advised path of a USB-C to Displayport adapter, and a male-to-male DisplayPort cable. The cable quality appears to be top-notch.

I rarely write reviews, but boy am I happy. Used this to connect my Steam Deck to my 2009 27" iMac (via Target Display Mode), and it works flawlessly!! Just like connecting to any standard dp monitor. Thank you!

DOES NOT WORK WITH NEW MACBOOK PRO 2022 (like title suggests). Attempted to connect to mid 2010 iMac.

After multiple attempts to find a cable that works with an older monitor (NEC PA272W) at full 1440 x 2560 resolution without flickering, it was such a relief to find a cable that simply worked. I'm using this connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port on a recent Macbook Pro and also via connection to the Thunderbolt 3 port on a Caldigit TS3 Plus dock. In both cases, no problems -- it just works. It shouldn't be this hard to find cables that work but the marketplace here is full of dodgy stuff with some vendors sending little 'gifts' to ensure one says nice things about their poor quality products. There were no shenanigans here -- just results.

I’m like most people who buy things based off of reviews but I usually don’t leave too many reviews myself so I thought this time I would. I was trying to find a cable to display my 2018 MacBook Pro screen onto my 2010 27 inch Imac. I thought for sure I was gonna plug this cable in and realize I need another attachment or just some other cable entirely but as soon as I plugged it in the MacBook Pro display appeared right onto my IMac with no extra work sorting through the settings. I was super impressed. Would highly recommend

What are the possible use cases for this adapter?- Operate a mini-display-port-connected video display via USB-C connection? (not tested)- Connect a USB-C modern device backward to the Thunderbolt 2 / Displayport standard (doesn't work for my OWC Envoy Pro SX external drive)- Connect a multi-port adapter or specialized peripheral (such as a USB-C audio interface) to a legacy computer (not tested)I would think that the external hard drive connection would be the most straightforward of the above use cases. So if it does not work, I'd have little hope for the other use cases.
