I have been using Cross pens for longer than I can remember. I started with the original gold filled pen and pencil set(they were a gift) many many years ago. This set introduced me to the world of luxury writing implements. When they finally each required service after many years of faultless operation, Cross repaired them under the lifetime guarantee. They were the slim models that I must admit I found a little difficult to hold properly over longer periods of writing.Then I discovered the larger diameter models of Cross ballpoint pens. I must now have at least six or seven of them in my office at home!This Cross "Calais" model continues the tradition and it is a beauty indeed. It has the expected Cross quality of finish and Dayspring Pens were kind enough to engrave my name on the barrel beside the pocket clip. The overall impression - the deep blue colour, the "heft" of the pen, the comfort and ease of use, the actual writing experience and the general feel of the pen and its natural fit in my fingers - is simply top notch.There are lots of less expensive pens on the market, many vying to come off as quality items. There are also many more expensive options, some ridiculously so! However, to me, the choice of pens from Cross, and this Calais model in particular, seem to strike a perfect balance between cost and ultimate satisfaction. From the moment I began to use this pen, it felt like an old friend. Natural, comfortable and eminently likeable.What more can you ask from a pen?

Love the style and feel of the pen in my hand when I'm writing. Love the weighting. It let's you know you have a writing instrument in your hand.

Visually, this pen is everything I had hoped for. It's a very simple design without any unnecessary ornamentation. It's also very nicely weighted, and I really like the thicker barrel. My hands aren't particularly large, but I still find a lot of pens are a bit skinny for my taste. Also, the engraving is beautifully done.I really didn't want to be the first to not give this pen five stars, and really I lean closer to four and a half, but there are a couple of issues that bring down the rating. 1) The twisting action for retracting and extending the pen tip is a bit loose and gritty feeling, and 2) it can be difficult to fully connect the cap to the body which leaves a black line between the two (pictured). I've been able to get them to meet with a little coaxing, but it's not ideal. The pen for which this is a replacement was a Cross pen that came in a $20 Victorinox gift set. It had approximately the same dimensions, but it didn't have either of these problems, and, since that one was cheaper, i really expected this one to perform at least as well.Overall, I am very happy with this pen. It didn't meet all of my expectations, but if you're looking for a handsome pen that feels good to hold I strongly recommend this one.

I have always been a fan of cross pens. Always stylish and write great. This was a gift for my daughter in law and she loved it.

The quality of this pen is outstanding. I have it to a pastor friend of mine after she got her degree. They even engraved it for a left hander!!! Beautiful gift and awesome presentation box.
