Q: Has anyone ever compared the quality of coffee between the iperEspresso and Nespresso machines?

If you are looking for an Italian espresso experience, iperEspresso is much better. Nespresso is weaker, and you can taste the difference if you drink pure espresso. A standard single espresso shot is 7-8 grams of coffee and 30 ml of water. iperEspresso capsule contains 7 grams of coffee, Nespresso is 5/6 grams. Also, a default setting on Nespresso machines is 40 ml of water for a single shot, iperEspresso will make a correct 30 ml shot out of the box. The length of shot can be adjusted, but you can't change the quantity of coffee inside the capsule. The quality and reputation of illy coffee is well known. You can buy the whole beans, they serve illy in many cafes and restaurants, even in Italy. The coffee in capsule is the same that is prepared by professional baristas and served in cafes and restaurants. There is even a professional version of iperEspresso capsule machines that sometimes you can see in Europe. I've never seen Nespresso served in cafes, I even never seen whole bean Nestle coffee. Also, illy doesn't buy their coffee at the market but from company trained farmers in different regions.

They come sealed in a canister and the capsules themselves are sealed so freshness has never been an issue for me.

No Jehee . . . These capsules are made by Illy and they are shaped specifically to fit the Illy iperesso machines.
