The third studio album by the British neo-progressive rock band. It is a concept album loosely based on the childhood of Marillion's lead singer, Fish, who was inspired by a brief incident that occurred while he was under the influence of acid. Features the singles 'Kayleigh', 'Lavender' and 'Heart of Lothian'.

"dilly dilly Marillion is brilly-ant"
after a recent Marillion rebirth in my CD collection I'm now aquiring the full back catalogue of the 'Fish years' (the best years in my opinion) albums. My mate had this LP & I copied it onto tape back in the day & I played it loads! I'm regretting not buying this on vinyl for myself now. As I've aged I feel I've come to appreciate artists like Marillion much more than I did when I was in my late teens & 20's when I just listened to ear thrashing metal! - I still do occasionally, but I've definitely mellowed in my 50's, & am swaying towards more prog rock like these guys, ELP, & Yes etc... This is a great album - its the 2017 remix. Each track now full on & beefy, 10 tracks of pure Marilliance! along with Script ForA Jesters Tear, & Fugazi! Its such a shame Mr. Dick has now retired though.

Superb album from Marillion
I think this album contains Marillion's best work. This lp is pressed on a lot of vinyl at least 180g. The sound quality is excellent not to forget that the songs are too. Superb work from Marillion. If you want to sample a bit of neo progressive rock, buy Misplaced Childhood.

Very good album, which was missing from the collection...
Never gave the band any time back in the day, but liked the ‘Kayleigh’ track, and have to admit to liking some Genesis (their kindred spirits, some have said) and so shelled out on the vinyl, based on good reviews, and....Very good album, on heavyweight vinyl, which is actually totally flat! Havereturned so many warped albums that I had the printer ready to do a returns label!, and was tempted to get the cd due to this fear.Good to see what the fans appreciated. Recommended!

Perfect classic progressive
PERFECT.I was not much in Marillion 30+ years ago because of heavy metal which was and is my genre. But now having gone through many, many kinds of bands, music, styles, I accidently decided to buy it, also for the low price, to remind myself music I considered my nostalgy. Well, I was blown away on listening to this. That is awesome. For a fortnite this record was on my turnable and enjoyed it every day, sometimes two-three times a day! Try this and you will surely be happy.

Derek William Dick's Marillion at their best
This is probably Marillion's finest album, certainly a step up from the previous Peter Gabriel era Genesis influence (particularly in Fish's vocals!). Exploring Dick the poet's trials and tribulations throughout his formative years, the lyrics are first rate and informative. The band's instrumental input is also first rate and with an excellent sound stage. My vinyl pressing is of an excellent quality. My deduction from an otherwise five star review is for two points:1. Fish's vocals are often too far down in the mix2. This is obviously remastered from a digital source, as the overall sound is inferior to a good analogue sourced pressing.

I still remember all of the lyrics
Back in the day, myself and a mate used to put this on the turntable before we went out on a Friday night. That original copy has long since perished, but the memories came flooding back when I put the needle on this remastered version. I honestly can’t remember if that original had the depth of sound that this contains, but suffice to say I am extremely impressed. Friday nights will never be the same again, 32 years on.
