JBL Floaty mini, Floating glass cleaning magnet for aquariums with acrylic panes up to 4 mm thick

I hesitated to pay about £15 for an aquarium glass cleaner. There are cheaper ones. Still, after reading all the positive reviews and watching some videos on youtube I decided to give it a go. What can I say? Wow! This is a really powerful magnetic aquarium glass cleaner! There was a lot of green dots algae on the front glass in my fish tank. I tried to remove it with some sponge and a plastic scraper but it would not come off. This Floaty magnetic cleaner removed it all! It did take me some elbow grease but still such an amazing job! The glass is very clean now.There are a few things you should be aware of using it:1. Floaty has a very powerful magnet so you better be careful and watch your fingers. It will hurt if your finger gets squeezed inside. Therefore I would not let children near it.2. The whole aquarium shakes when you are cleaning the glass. My fish must think it is an earthquake as they all hide and would not come out until I finished.3. Make sure none of the gravel gets caught between the magnet and the glass or you may scratch it.Yes, this cleaner may be not 100% perfect but still I don't know how I could be without it. It cleans the glass really well. A real must have for an aquariumist! Hence 5 stars from me!

After much debating on which algae magnet to go for, I decided on this one for the silicone protection.I have 10mm thick glass and it works beautifully. It rarely comes off - when it does, it's usually because I have gone too quickly with it!When it does come off, you simply hold the magnet near the floating part and it will come back. It's pretty cool to watch, and a very useful feature. No more sunken algae magnets and wet arms to retrieve them!!As with all algae magnets, just make sure you don't go too close to the gravel and end up with bits of gravel or sand stuck in-between the magnets as this is what causes scratches on the glass. Be diligent and you wont have any issues!The algae pad itself works well, it struggles on thick built up algae, but I find that if I run this over the glass once a week, I don't get any algae at all as it gets it off before it manages to grow. 10/10! I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner!

This little thing is perfect for small tanks, say 20l and below. It's good if you get the occasional small algal bloom and just need to clear the glass. The flanged base gets into the corners relatively well, and you can actually scrape out any algae that's accumulated there relatively well.It is very small, though, so it takes a good 10 minutes or so to fully wipe across the inside of the glass, and the magnet is good but won't win any awards, so if the algae has actually started to form strands, anchored to the glass, this doesn't /quite/ apply enough force on the inside to dislodge it, so you need to properly scrub and scrub, or better yet, get your hand into the aquarium and manually scrub it from the inside.If the algae is light and hasn't formed large colonies, then this works really well.the only downside is that after scraping the algae, the brush pad on the inside begins to smell, especially if you lift it out of the water so that algae doesn't grow on it while you're not using it. After a while you can smell the rotting algae on the pad. Not a problem with the device itself, but you will need to wash it out with boiling water after every few uses, otherwise you'll be able to smell it when you're close to the aquarium. I tend to wash it every few months when I start to detect the smell from a foot away or so, before it gets too bad.Otherwise, this is a great little pad, perfect for small tanks and scraping off a little unwanted algae.

It is small... very small. It does float as advertised which is good as the magnet(s) is/are quite weak. Tried it on my 350l tank and it kept pooping off as soon as you try and move it. I took it to one of my smaller tanks (with thinner glass) and it worked much better. Fine for a beginner hobbyist with a small tank I'd say

I've had aquariums for many years and always cleaned algae off the glass by hand with a kitchen scouring sponge. But my latest aquarium is positioned so light gets at from both sides, so lots of algae, and there are rocks inside that make a lot of the glass inaccessible. I bought this to try it out and it's just brilliant. I quickly got the hang of using a small circular motion and gradually cleaned off all the algae. I even used it to shift some of the sand on the bottom so I could clean the glass there where algae had accumulated. Now I can use it regularly to easily keep the glass clean. The magnet is strong enough so it rarely looses connection. Very pleased with this Floaty.

It cleans my BiOrb Acrylic fish tank quickly leaving no scratches and it sticks well to the curved walls provide you take your time and do not move excessively quickly.The fact that it floats is great as it easily reattaches once near the other magnet.Very pleased after several uses
