My name is Robert Jack. For oil painting, Crescent 215 Hot Press is my go-to board. I love sketching directly on the smooth surface, sealing the drawing under a layer of Liquitex Acrylic Matte Medium, then oil painting on top.The only real drawback is how much the price can vary from seller to seller. That’s frustrating. The range seems to swing between $30 and $50 for 10 sheets. But it's an excellent product recommended to me by none other than James Gurney (Dinotopia) and is perfect for my dinosaur-farm scenes.

one of my go-to illustration boards ... definitely on the smooth side, in terms of surface texture, but still with just a faint touch of texture, not completely slick/plate-smooth. nice and thick. clean white surface. they're a little prone to warping, but not too bad, and no more or less than any other illustration board of this thickness. the only downside is that 15x20 is not a very standard size if you're looking to frame anything you create on these, other brands (like canson, also good) come in the more typical 16x20. nevertheless, crescent 215 is a good, high-quality illustration board for pen/ink, marker, or graphite. i've used them often and done very detailed work on them.

I have painted in watercolor in the past on illustration boards with beautiful results. This board is a whole different animal. The core soaks up the water almost immediately so that it is impossible to move the paint on the paper. It is also impossible to lift any paint after it dries because the cheap micro thin paper covering over this (cardboard?) will shred. Waist of money!

Could use both side if need be saved paper

This product is not real crescent board, outlines bleed and spread, there are no brand markings on the back, might as well use white cardboard that’s all this is. Crescent is a much better quality brand

The board was not hot press, I have used illustration board for 40 years. the edges had a beveled cut like it was waste from mat board. there is printing on the edge that is on the drawing surface.
