*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!*Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s.One of the bloodiest and most creative, late 20th century horror franchises, THE PROPHECY TRILOGY, all of which star Oscar® winner Christopher Walken as the evil angel Gabriel, broke new ground in 1990s horror with their high concept narratives and gruesome practical effects. Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the 4K UHD debuts of THE PROPHECY 1-3, or the "Gabriel" trilogy, all newly and exclusively restored and featuring an extensive array of new and archival bonus materials. In Gregory Widen’s acclaimed directorial debut, THE PROPHECY (1994), Elias Koteas (Crash) stars as Thomas Dagget, a former seminary student who has turned his back on religion, instead becoming a homicide detective. Thomas’ latest case, of a strangely deformed and mutilated corpse, pushes him into the middle of a bloody battle between Simon (Eric Stoltz), an angel of good, and Gabriel (Christopher Walken), an angel of evil, each of whom are attempting to gather souls and build an army in order to prevent - or bring about - the apocalypse. In director Greg Spence’s gruesome follow-up, THE PROPHECY II (1998), dark angel Gabriel, vengeful over his failure to bring about the end times, returns to earth intent on spreading violence and destruction, but soon sets his sights on Valarie Rosales (Jennifer Beals), a nurse who, unbeknownst to her, is pregnant with an angel. If Gabriel is able to kill both her and her child, he will hold sufficient evil power to finish his war in heaven. Finally, in director Patrick Lussier’s closing entry in the trilogy, THE PROPHECY 3: THE ASCENT (2000), the now human Gabriel is faced with an unlikely challenge - to assist Danyael, a resurrected half angel/half human in stopping the evil angel sent to kill him, and to help Danyael prevent Heaven's war and stop the coming of a second genocidal God - Pyriel.Bonus Features:1. 4-disc Set: 4K Ultra HD x2 / Region A Blu-ray x22. 4K UHD presented in High-Dynamic-Range3. For "The Prophecy" fans, THIS is the one to get
This is a review of the 4K, 4-disc Vinegar Syndrome release. For those who are already fans of these films, and of Christopher Walken, this is the set to own.The price is daunting, but you definitely get your moneys' worth. The first film, "The Prophecy" hasn't looked this good since I saw it screened back in 1995. The sound is clear, and dialogue comes through well. Although I did put on the subtitles so I could catch every word that Christopher Walken says, since he has such an unusual cadence in his delivery that it is a style wholly his own.The next two films, "The Prophecy II" and "The Prophecy III" look fantastic, far better than the previous DVD's/Blu-ray set put out by Miramax. I'd only recommend the Miramax release for casual fans who aren't die-hard enough to shell out $65.00 or more for the first three movies. Or also if you really want to own the next two films, "The Prophecy:Uprising" and "The Prophecy:Forsaken". (They're okay. One of them at least has Tony Todd in it, so there's that). The best part of the Vinegar Syndrome set is that you get four discs: Disc 1 has the first film in UHD; Disc2 has the next two in UHD; Disc 3 has the first film on Blu-ray, and Disc 4 has the next two on Blu-ray.Both versions of "The Prophecy" feature commentary by the Director and Screenwriter Gregory Widen, and the Producer Joel Soisson. The Blu-ray disc also has 'Making-Of', the make-up and SFX interviews, interviews with the Producer about working with Christopher Walken (the anecdotes are hilarious!), and interviews with the screenwriter/Directors on "The Prophecy II" and "the Prophecy III", and actors from both films. The 4K disc of "The Prophecy II" and "The Prophecy III" have director's/producers' commentary. The Blu-ray disc of the above has just the films. But for the quality of the image and sound on the 4K discs, plus the bonus features on the Blu-ray disc of "The Prophecy", this is the set you've been waiting for. Vinegar Syndrome is to be commended for bringing these cult classics out on versions that do the films justice. And of course, there's subtitles, for those who are hard-of-hearing or, more realistically, hard-of-hearing-for-Christopher-Walken's-Dialogue!

Much improved release -
There are probably technical reasons the remastered still isn't breathtakingly clean and clear... but this release is much improved over the blu-ray set that came out years ago. Good sound, and adequate video quality... The 4K is a bit darker than the Blu-ray... at least on my 4K - level 7 TV ! It may be better of the higher quality 4K TVs out there...

OMG THANK YOU VINEGAR SYNDROME!!
I was on the fence seeing as I own all the Prophecy movies on Blu-ray & DVD. However FOMO runs my life and I just had to have this set. Holy cow did I ever underestimate the quality! If you love these movies like I do. DO IT NOW as there will be no regrets. Mine was not purchased here. Just wanted to pass along the info in case someone is on the fence.
