Q: Is this Chinese anise or Japanese. I heard Japanese is toxic??

I believe this is Japanese anise. I made a tincture and a few elderberry syrups with this and everyone in my family has reacted every single time. This is not good stuff

Q: does anyone know where this anise come from, China India ....? does it also contain any preservative or just purely natural?

I don't know if natural or not. I bought this under the impression they were selling it as seeds to grow the plant. what a waste of time effort and money. it's from China. There was no consistency in them at all some were crushed some look like they've been dehydrated too long, and some were very immature.

Q: How can I store so that they keep for a year or more?

I've kept mine in a zip lock bag for a year and it still tastes great.

Q: Do i use the whole star or do i remove the seeds from the star? i will be using them to make chai. thank you!

When I make chai ice cream, I slightly heat spices first in a sauce pot to bring out flavor, then I add the milk etc, and further heat before before removing from heat and letting steep for half hour or more to increase flavor. The smells are great.
