Q: Is the stand itself magnetic?

No the stand itself is not magnetic. You’ll need the Apple MagSafe Charger itself (which is magnetic) you insert the MagSafe charger into the stand and then you can charge your phone, it’s just a more convenient and aesthetic way to use your MagSafe charger

Q: Can you put an iPhone on sideways (landscape view)?

No/yes, it is designed to hold the weight of the iPhone at the vertical angle however, you can angle the top to lay the iPhone flat then move the top to an angle and it will hold the iPhone Pro Max. It was designed to hold air pods in the flat position. The magsafe adaptor magnet is quite strong. I don't know if I would trust it in a total horizontal position. I also purchased a Manfrotto mini tripod and head piece to hold the iPhone securely although it does not charge the phone which for me is okay.

Q: Can the phone be charged with the stand folded?

Yes, it charge in any position. It will even charge your AirPods if you have it flat and the AirPods just sit on it Ike a table. I use it daily for both.

Q: Will this work with phone case installed?

That might depend on the case. It works with mine but it is otterbox symmetry designed for use with MagSafe. It has the ring inside it. Suggest you look for that. The use of others although it may charge it also may not hold the phone the way you want it to.
