Accurate, durable cutter that will last many years
First I had a plastic Fiskars rotary cutter. The design was terrible and cuts were wobbly. Then I got a Dahle rotary cutter. It made nice, clean cuts but the side rails were crooked and thus all cuts were inaccurate. The top deck was also very small so cutting anything with a side longer than 6 inches. After struggling pointlessly for two years I gave in and decided to make an INVESTMENT in a high-quality rotary cutter. The RotaTrim Monorail ss that cutter. The Monorail series is Rotatrim's "budget" model line-up. There are more plastic parts and the cutting head is plastic and guided by a single yet sturdy square pipe. The deck is heavy and solid and can measure cuts up to 12" deep and 13" wide. The side rail is properly aligned right out of the box and the included "cursor" is adjustable and allows for quick, accurate, and repeatable cuts. This cutter is also completely serviceable with replacements available for ALL parts! I initially considered this to be "expensive" and one reason that i purchased the less expensive Dahle. But I wasted so much time and plenty of paper struggling to maintain accurate cuts, and even more time with a ruler and pencil drawing cut guides! The Rotatrim is already saving me so much time and effort in that respect.

A trimmer I can live with
After years of procrastinating on buying a decent trimmer, I decided to purchase this Rotatrim model. I am a semi-pro photographer who needs a good trimmer for portraits, cards, and other miscellaneous tasks. I've been using a Carl trimmer, that you can find at big box stores. It was okay for small jobs, but I couldn't trim 13x19 sheets of paper. Also, the cutting band would wear out and cause unclean cuts unless it was replaced. This Rotatrim solves those problems. It is sturdy, and the cutting wheel runs along the side of a metal band. I can easily trim up to 5 sheets of photo paper or card stock. The cuts are extremely clean. You need to practice using this cutter, since there is no guide to show you where the cutting wheel contacts the page. This is only an issue when you are cutting to 'fit', regardless of dimensions. The cutting surface has 1/4" squares to help you get precise dimensions for your work. A transparent clamp strip keeps the item depressed during the cutting process. It can be easily removed for cleaning. A sliding guide can be screwed down to set a specific dimension for the cut. It can be slid out of the way or removed when you don't need it.I expect this to be the last trimmer I will buy, assuming my needs don't change. It is a bit pricey, but the quality is there. Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful paper cutter
I purchased this based on the recommendation of a friend. This is a wonderful paper cutter; I can accurately cut 1/8" strips if I choose! I particularly like the design of it in that when you press down to cut, a somewhat soft piece of plastic also is pushed down which holds the paper in place. I had never seen anything like this before and it works wonderfully! This device does for paper what a rotary cutter and cutting mat do for fabric. Definitely worth the money.

It was the best reviewed of any we found
We shopped around a while before we purchased this particular rotary cutter. It was the best reviewed of any we found, and it hasn't disappointed. We purchased one for our library and one for our history center. It has been safer and has stayed sharper than the guillotine cutter we had before. It has a sturdy construction, cuts about 6 pieces of regular paper easily, and after a year of daily use, is still sharp and cutting well. We've been pleased with this purchase.
