Great on carpet
Update 4/14/24: After 14 months I started getting cracks in 3 places, which I think is to be expected considering it sits on approximately 5/8" plush carpet, I have single rollerblade wheels rather than the double wheels, I work from home most of the time, and I weigh255 lbs. I should probably change over to the smaller double wheels to spread the load out more, but I originally bought the single larger wheels hoping the chair would roll easier over the carpet, What I did now to hopefully prevent further damage is to lay down a thick vinyl mat (Crystal Clear Office Chair Mat for Carpet or Hardwood, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPSKP3T7?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1. This mat is nearly 1/4" thick and I hoping is will relieve some of the stress and prevent further cracking. All in all, I'm still pretty happy with this chair mat, over a year of 10 hour plus days before I had any issues. I paid $115 at the time, so it works out to $9/mo, but it's still very serviceable since the cracks are only 3 or 4 inches long. I noticed the price has dropped considerably to $85, so even better.I Haven't had this long enough to assess durability, but seems like it will be durable. I first installed the rollerblade wheels on my chair, which was an improvement but, between the padding and medium pile carpet, still made me feel like I was going to eventually bend a wheel when trying to position my chair. This works like a charm. You can see the mat flexing a little as you roll, but no resistance as the wheels change direction. I have about 4 feet between my desk and credenza. so I got the 60"x48" version. I spun the mat so the 48" side is parallel with the desk/credenza, and it goes under each about 6" so I'm not rolling of the edge of the mat all the time when I pull up my chair. I used a Dremel tool with a 2" saw blade to trim it, which worked like a charm. I used painter's tape where I was going to cut, made my marks and had no issues with chipping or cracking. This mat isn't cheap but, if it holds up as well as I think it will, I'll be very pleased.

They tried to warn me...will not last...
I purchased this mat since it seemed like the best quality one besides going glass. My first mat lasted a couple years of use (few hours a day at home). It finally ended up with a couple cracks, and I used the warranty claim to get a new one (you get a new mat, but have to pay shipping ... something like $15-25, I can't remember exactly.)You get ONE warranty claim. If the warranty replacement fails...and it WILL fail. you are out of luck The second mat must use a different recipe, or something, because it has lasted a couple months, and it is almost unusable. There are so many cracks that sometimes my chair will not roll normally. To give info on use, I am around 230, and use a Steelcase Leap V2 chair on medium carpet (not berber, but not extra plush).I guess if that hasn't soured my opinion of this mat enough, one additional gripe is that since it has a smooth bottom, it tends to end up moving on the carpet. Every week or so I need to readjust it to orient it correctly under my desk.If they would give you additional warranty claims, I would consider this an "okay" purchase/value. But since it is so expensive, and has already failed me twice, I would not consider this a good purchase, and will be looking for a glass mat.

A Top Performer - Don't Be Misled
No cracks after six months. Other reviewers have been honest but, I think, too critical of this chair mat. Rolling my 230 lbs in an office chair disintegrates a PVC chair mat in 3-4 months so make no mistake - polycarbonate mats are a level up from PVC and vinyl and this mat performs at that next level. When used on a padded medium pile carpet, I don't think any polymer (plastic) mat can be expected to last a lifetime for a heavy user like myself. If that type of performance is needed, I suggest looking at the $400+ protectors, perhaps even a large (10-ft+) tempered glass product. If aesthetics are not a concern, a sheet of plywood would provide long-lasting protection. I can't see deducting 3 or 4 stars from any polymer mat because it eventually cracked - they will all crack, but polycarbonate will provide a decent service life.I doubt Amazon could offer 2-day free delivery of either one. A glass plate would probably require a glazer's truck and special handling. UPS, Fedex, and other parcel carriers normally don't handle lumber like plywood sheets. To obtain a competitively-priced durable chair mat that doesn't turn the room into machine shop, polycarbonate mats such as this one will be the best bet.Mine also suffers from movement as I roll my chair around. I resolved this by pinning down the corners with my desk and a file cabinet. Perhaps it is a bit inelegant but it stays put. in browsing reviews, I have not found a mat whose spikes hold the mat perfectly still. I think the only way to keep a mat in place is to get one that weighs much more than me and the chair combined - and that, of course, presents its own problems. I don't deduct stars for not doing the impossible. My calipers put the thickness at about 0.12 inches - a hair under 1/8". I expect this mat will perform as well as any polycarbonate mat this thick, much better than any PVC chair mat, and a bit below a 1/4" PC mat. But don't be fooled - despite star ratings this mat will outperform the PVC chair mats across the board. The extra cost is worth it.17-month Update: One 4-inch hair-sized crack has developed after 17 months. It is near the corner that the desk sits on, and I had to gain 20 lbs to acquire it. If it is growing in length, it is at a rate that is too slow to notice. No other issues. This is by far the best chair mat I have ever owned - I would have gone through two and now be shopping for a third if I had stuck with PVC mats. I expect several more years of service out of this one.28-month update: I am still nursing the same 4-inch crack. No additional cracks in the last 11 months. It's too bad, because I really miss shopping for a new mat every few months. My mat has nothing like the damage I see in the pictures from other reviews. I suppose I can be too stubborn about not allowing people to play rugby on it.But I agree about rolling out the mat when you receive it: It is rolled up under high tension for delivery and it snaps down when the bindings are cut. Make sure no one is standing near either end of where the mat will lay when you cut the strap.35-month update:Well, it split again today after I read another review that implied PVC floor protectors might be better than polycarbs in some cases. My pants, from laughing that is. My polycarbonate carpet protector is pretty much unchanged since my last update, when it had not changed from the update previous to that one.55-month update: So finally, in the last 20 months, my polycarbonate mat has developed two 10-inch cracks that are spreading. The cracks correspond to where I do the most rolling and gaining 20 lbs probably didn't help, either. Although it is still doing its job, I will replace it soon.Nonetheless, gone are the days of crumbling PVC carpet protectors for me. Fool that I was, I bought new PVC mats twice a year, because they were cheaper than the polycarbonate ones. With 20/20 hindsight I see now that I was a just the tool of fat cat PVC recyclers muddying the waters with their fake product reviews. Curse my relentless frugality! In my tears and my pain, I cried out for a way to break the cycle, and heroic polycarbonate carpet protectors were there for me, with a firm, durable and somewhat anthropomorphic answer.I've been blessed with good health since then, but if you come to my funeral some day you will approach my cold earthly remains over a series of pristine polycarbonate floor mats. When you spot me you will swear I cracked a small smile as you approached, a postmortem reflex to knowing I was 100% truthful regarding polycarbonate carpet protectors and their evil PVC rivals (as best I can tell - those PVC fat cats cover their tracks well!) Then the mats will be eulogized and buried with me.I'm livin' the dream, in a chair on a mat. I'm a man on a roll - a polycarbonate man.

Solid mat
I did lots of research as we have new thick carpets and I didn’t want the office chair wheels to ruin them. I decided you get what you pay for and so went for these (there are cheaper options but with some bad reviews) I ordered one mat to see if it was worth the money. It was great, large, thick and protects the carpet perfectly. So I ordered a second one. Very happy customer.

Absolutely the best when it comes to floor mats as it lasted 5 years.
2013 Absolutely the best of the best when it comes to floor mats. Not only will it not break or fracture like the cheap ones do, I'm a really heavy man & this mat stands up to my constant use.Inexpensive as well, I will likely have this mat for years.2018 Update: I purchased this mat back in 2013 & it was the best mat I had ever used as most mats would last less than a year for me.My office chair has extra wide wheels on it & 6 legs, instead of the usual 5, so it is far easier on the mats than traditional office chairs. But after nearly 5 years, it is cracked in multiple places & is about to come apart so I have no choice but to replace it.I did reorient it over the years to take the strain off the same places all the time but I do move around alot as well.To be honest, I have little to complain about for what I paid for it. ($60.60) It was a great mat.However...I wish I bought 4 of them @ that price because now, the same mat is over $200.00 with tax which is essentially ridiculous.Since I have no other choice but to buy a new one, I will have to pay the premium price which angers me as I feel I am being milked for more than 3X what I paid for the mat back in 2013.Last time I checked, competition was supposed to bring down prices, not triple them.I certainly see a LOT of other companies selling chair mats & they're all around the same price, which doesn't seem right to me.This is polycarbonate, which is made from the most common substance on the planet, along with recycled plastic I believe, so what's up?Why the massive cost increase for the exact same product when we all know manufacturing costs have certainly NOT gone up for this mat?

Excellent Chair Mat for Plash Carpet
As the head line says this is an excellent polycarbonate chair mat for use on plush carpet. The main reason for this review is to alert buyers that out of the package the the edges are quite sharp, my wife cut her foot. I solved the issue by using a sanding block to ease the sharp edges.

CRACKED in multiple places under 3 months
Cracked within a few months. Cleartex/Floortex needs to do better with this product. It needs to be a couple mm thicker.
