I was sick and tired of my old straightener's, as they did anything but straighten my hair! So after looking at a zillion different products, I settled for the Remington S5500 Sleek & Smooth and I've never looked back! They're easy and comfortable to use and straighten my unruly curly mop in about five minutes flat, which is fantastic as the old pair used to take about fifteen minutes!They also keep my hair straight for the entire day and night, which is something I've never had before as my hair used to go curly again within about ten minutes with the old pair! For reference, the old pair are made by a company which sounds like a very young child with four letters on the end!I also find my new straightener's are easy to transport with the handy pouch and have a very long cord, which is good if your mirror and plug socket aren't that close to one another!My only wish is that they did them in a cordless, rechargeable version too, which would be great for straightening my hair after swimming! :o)

I opted for this straightener because I didn't want to spend a lot on a GHD. I use it occasionally on straight hair to make it shiny and even more straight. My hair is quite fine and is damaged easily. I found it comfortable to use, it heats up quite quickly, and I'm able to straighten my hair with a lasting effect on a low temperatute. It hasn't visibly damanged my hair (I'm not a 'power user'). I did use it with a protective spray and went easy on the tips. Good for its price.Update: 4 years later and this straightener is still alive and working well. I use it to curl and straighten my hair (and even to iron a shirt, once!). It doesn’t seem to be going anywhere despite some light staining on the blades because of product build up that’s burned.

I bought this product a while ago but didn’t want to make a review about it before trying it a few times. Honestly it does an amazing job, it leaves me with such silky straight hair and it last for 2-3 weeks.

I brought these after having to cut my waste long hair due to disabilities.. I haven't straightened my hair. Which curls like ringlets since 1999. That took 2.5hrs due to the length and thickness. So after having cut short I got these just to see if with my health issues I could A)use them, and B) because I wanted to see how long it would take. These heat up rapidly are easy to handle for someone with arthritis. Bearing in mind also how thick my hair is I thought its worth a go.. so it took me 10mins 1st time to get a good ish effect. 2nd time I was a bit more meticulous I managed to do my whole head ,(inverted bob) in 20mins. Simple to use sleek and. Well I would like to say how amazing these are but don't think I'm allowed to swear on here. Suffice to say these are a fantastic price and product. I'm beyond happy that I brought them. Best gift I got myself in a long time

I bought these on the recommendation of a friend to replace my trusty old GHDs which suddenly stopped working. I have only ever used GHDs for the last 15 years and generally love them, but didn't want to shell out for a new pair at the moment. These Remington straighteners I was shocked to discover are as good if not better than my GHDs! The plates are super smooth and as they float the alignment is great. They do not catch or snag hair. They heat up pretty quickly and I like the ability to adjust the temperature. The are not too heavy but have enough weight that they don't feel cheap. They have a nice long cord. The only thing I would like is if they beeped when they got to temperature (instead the LED stops flashing) but this is a minor issue. The really are fantastic value and I highly recommend them.

These are a good rival to ghd. They heat up just as quick but sooo much cheaper. Ideal for someone on a budget

These straighteners are quite good. They leave my hair soft shiny and smooth.They are so easy to use and I have had no issues with them until now.At first they held my hair in its style after I had used them, but now they don't. I have not changed any hair products so it is not that. I straighten and my hair looks perfect but shortly after it seems like I have not used them. My hair gets frizzy and wavy again.I feel that possibly the temperature is not getting as hot as it did, and this is on the highest setting 230 degrees too. Also the OFF button is extremely difficult to switch off when using the 230 temperature.I have noticed too that the safety cut out does not happen at times, which is quite dangerous.If Remington could improve these straighteners than they would be perfect as they do leave my hair super shiny and soft.
