High-Quality SIP phone that is rock solid
Digium is a name associated with SIP/Asterisk/etc, so it is no surprise that they would build an awesome phone. The D40 is rock solid and works great with FreePBX and Asterisk; however, it does have a web admin page that can be configured to work with pretty much any SIP service. The D40 supports 2 lines whereas the D50 supports 4. Each can be configured with a SIP service. It can also be powered over ethernet or a power transformer can be purchased separately (@ $16) to power it traditionally for those that do not have PoE. The power transformer does not come with the phone. If you need it power it and do not have PoE you have to order the transformer. The phone supports all of the codec's one could possibly want, but the new wideband HD codec G.722 is the most popular now days. The voice quality is outstanding while not killing bandwidth like G.711 u/alaw. Voices actually sound better over the phone than it does in person. G.722 is outstanding on this phone. If you need a SIP phone you can't go wring with Digium. The construction quality is on par with Cisco and Avaya commercial devices. It feels solid, the display is easy to read and it is easy to configure.

Difficult to imposible to configure to a remote server and firmware update bricked it.
I have used VOIP phones for over 10 years. This was supposed to be an easy install. BUT first you have to have a power supply it is not marked on the product description that it will not function as shipped. Then I borrowed a friends power supply to and configured it and configured it and configured it and configured it. It would save the settings, connect to the remote server and not authenticate, despite having the correct credentials. The "new" phone had an ancient firmware version so I loaded the firmware and now I have a BRICK!Even Polycom which is a real pain to configure and long wait times eventually configures.I will write back when the final disposition of this is figured out. Buyer beware.

This product does not come with a power cord. We have other phones, and the phones work pretty good, but it is very inconvenient that these phones do not come with a power cord.

Phone didn't include a power cord. I had to order them separately for $22.
